Im new to 40k, I went half's on the DI box and took Death Guard, however I am really digging that new Primaris Dreadnought. Could this be a thing come the Death Guard codex? will they possibly be getting more options?

Hey mate, welcome to the 41st Millennium!
We haven't got word on any new Dreadnaught models, or even a teaser or leak. Not much has really been revealed for us yet, even less has actually been released.

We could possibly get one though, but it would probably be based on the Contemptor Dreadnaught, as the Death Guard are all about their old school tech, being an old legion and all. It's super fluffy to have Dreadnaughts for Death Guard, but we'll have to see if we actually get a new model.

We are definitely getting more options though. We know Death Guard Terminators are on the way, along with our very own Primarch, Mortarion himself, and also a new tank called the Plagueburst Crawler. These have been teased and/or leaked so we know they're coming.

Somewhat new here as well (was big into 40K in the 90s then not so much for like 15 years...)

Isnt there a DG dread showing in some of the pics in the rulebook? Don't have access to it currently but was thinking there was and that was a likely future release

If you like the kit, you can buy one and put it together and simply count it as a Chaos Dread (or Hellbrute or whatever their stupid name). Sure it's a little bigger, but you can run it with the Chaos rules. As for an actual Chaos version of that actual unit? No, not likely.

The Primarus dread is Leviathan sized. If I get my hands on a cheap one I'll convert it to a hellforged leviathan.

I like the model, so basically I was going to be buying this new Primaris Dread and hoping to be able to paint it Death Guard and use it. It sounds like I can with the Chaos tag though? just not Death Guard specifically.

I'd probably hold off getting one unit the Death Guard codex is out. That way you'll either know if there's a new slime DG Dreadnought you like more or what options DG dreads can have and then convert the Primaris version to fit the load out so it's playable without having to keep explaining yourself.

Good idea, its just around the corner. I think im going with a emphasis on Nurgle since I have some AoS nurgle models and want an excuse to buy some Plague Drones!

the Primaris units likely won't be avaliable to chaos for some time. if ever. Primaris Marines haven't been around long eneugh for them to fall to chaos in any noticable numbers

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I don't think it's very likely that there'll be a special DG dread.
The index list for DG units excluded at least two of our typical units - the termis and the vindicator. Now we know already there will be DG termis (probably with a different name) and there's the plagueburst crawler to take the position of a Vindi.
However, the index list did not exclude the rather recent Helbrute kit which also comes with options to represent a Nurgle helbrute (the version with a bare head you can see in the rulebook).
If DG would get an own dread I'd say they'd exclude the helbrute to make DG even more unique.
But that's just my theory. I'm sitting here on two forgeworld Nurgle dreads, which are possibly the greatest dread models in all of 40K, but unfortunately they don't sell those anymore.
