.... in a tournament setting. As in, I realise there are hard counters to this list, but in a competitive setting hard counters wont do well against the rest of the lists. So I need to know what tournament lists will be able to beat this while also holding their own against the rest of the nasty lists.
It will struggle with stormtalon spam,
IG HWT spam and hordes in general. I hope to turtle against fast
CC and blow up the transports early. Once stuff is footslogging I have the range and dakka to kill them before they get to me (with any luck). This will work well against Magnus/renegade knights, IK's,
DE raider spam, Marines parking lot,
DS scion spam. I play against the hordes mostly, so I don't have much actual playtime against the elite lists, so I need help tearing this list to shreds. I'm playing a tournament in a few months, and its straight up 8th with
FAQ's, no ITC rulings. 2k points, 3 detachments allowed.
Spearhead:
1x Toholk
1x Stalker
20x Warriors
1x Ghost Ark
9x Scarabs
9x Scarabs
1x Tesseract Ark w/
TC
1x Sypder w/ FCA
1x Doomsday Ark
Super-heavy Aux:
1x Gauss Pylon
Toholk gives a 30% chance of seizing the initiative, (rerolls failed seizes, which is my answer to Stormtalon spam

). Him and the spyder means the pylon gets 2d3 wounds back per turn, and the spyder has the option to repair other vehicles aswell. The spyder also replenishes the scarabs, who provide a massive footprint removing
DS threats to my heavy hitters.
The
TA is a midfield threat, with a fleshbane flamer, tesla cannon, 5++ naturally, anti charge defense and a big gun. It can grab objectives while still putting out alot of damage, and has living metal and QS to keep it safe (I'm assuming most of the enemies big guns will be pointed at the pylon).
The
DDA and pylon are in a back corner, the 72" & 120" ranges mean they hit the whole board while remaining relatively safe due to being out of range of alot of big guns. They have scarabs and spyder for countercharge/ area denial, and the pylon gives everything a 5++, meaning the scarabs are more durable than standard.
I swapped the Deciever for a stalker. Its
RR of 1's is a better counter to all the flyer spam I feel will be in the meta. It also means a 3rd flyer will be dead/close to death a turn, vs the Deciever only threatening them in
CC (which is highly unlikely).i can venture the stalker out against certain armies but I can give it a scarab screen as the match dictates.
Grand Illusion is good, but if I blinked the 20 warriors and
GA with Toholk up the board, they are unsupported and also I lose Toholk's ability to buff a vehicles living metal ability while putting him in danger of giving slay the warlord.
Im scared of
DS genestealer blobs, but they will need to eat the chaff units first (I can turtle to protect the big stuff while they put out the hurt), if the scarabs survive (they have a 5++ due to the pylon) the close range dakka from the
DDA,
TA and pylon is even more brutal than the long range.
Finally, I can keep the pylon in
DS T1 if i feel it needs extra protection, and it doesn't suffer any penalty to shooting as its a macro weapon not heavy.
DS scions will have face scarabs and warriors before even thinking of being in range of my vehicles, and wont put out enough damage to kill scarabs/warriors before they are dead, and the spyder and
GA will replenish what was lost.
Only question, should I run a Gauss sentry pylon or a stalker?
Please be ultra critical, this is my first tournament.
