Hey all,

Just wondering the speed with which people round here paint?

If you put your mind to it how quickly can you paint 500pts to a high TT standard?

By high TT standard I mean multiple washes, multiple highlights. A standard similar to the Warhammer TV vids

Depends on the army. To paint a basic model like that would take me maybe an hour and a half, multiply by however many models are needed for an army.

GW don't really make what I consider "basic" models anymore, everything is caked in excessive detail. To paint a detailed model to that sort of standard would probably take me 2-3 hours.

That sort of standard is kind of the level I have been painting my Skaven BB team, a neat clean paintjob with nothing fancy....

To paint to what is for me a relatively high standard takes me about 5-8 hours per model, that's sort of how I paint my Space Hulk Blood Angels...

So multiply that by however many models is required for a 500pt army and that's sort of how long it'll take me.

Realistically that's why I now only play armies that I can speed paint, don't have the time nor patience to spend hundreds of hours painting an army these days.

Not a sensible question. 500 points of Clanrats (shudder) is not 500 points of Deathwing.

If you take it as more like '10 infantry, 5 bikes/cavalry, 1 character), then, from sprue, I'd be looking at churning that out in about 2.5 weeks turnaround (~70 hours working).

too many model factors involved in your Q, you need to spesify what type of models and what colours as some are faster to paint then others.

Three months depending on the army?

I like elite armies and I paint about one model per week. Got to echo AllSeeingSkink here, GW models are encrusted with detail, so they take a lot longer to paint than what I would consider a normal model.

I don't even paint to a high TT standard. So...no time at all.

Wrhammer TV models, unless you're talking about the occasional "here's how to drybrush this" are so far above TT standard it's insane. While definitions vary, multiple highlights is NOT TT standard. My personal definition is:

1. Everything is the right color (basecoat + layer main color, details painted the correct color [like wolf claws or ork teeth])
2. Wash
3. One highlight
4. Base painted, to be finished at some point

That, when done neatly, is a respectable TT standard

Ye sorry guys perhaps I worded the question badly.

I said points rather than models, because if you have 500pt clan rats to paint for a gaming army you will surely not apply the same per model quality as you would 500pts Deathwing. I was thinking more in terms of getting stuff ready for gaming

Regarding TT standard, I regard my own work as high-ish TT. For me multiple highlights is not much to ask if one wants nice looking gaming armies, and I see a lot of really nice painted gaming armies that support this as a viable TT standard.

For me (and I am someone who has won "best painted" at tournament weekends), on average, 3 months for 500 points. Expecting a 2000 point army to be done in a year.

That's thinking of about 60-80 models with 3 centrepieces = an army.

I hope that gives you a ballpark figure.
