I'll Be Back

Just getting back into this from 5th edition.
Started a Necron army this time, but it seems a lot of my powerful HQ choice are unavailable, along with a lot of other models. Does anyone think this is a sign of future discontinuation? Any other Xenos on the chopping block in your opinion?

I'm also a newcomer looking to play Necrons. Yes, some stuff on GW's website is unavailable. I think I read somewhere that they're repackaging some things, so certain items may go in and out of stock as things are updated. I'm not 100% sure on this, it's just what I read.

Yes, I've heard similar. I just wish GW would come and say the do or don't have plans to cancel any particular lines.

they're probably reproducing that stuff using their new resin which is closer to FW resin and not terrible like the stuff they used for finecast.

If they were squatting something they wouldn't put out rules.

Nothing is (officially) planned to be squatted as of the time of writing. You're better off trying to buy from Ebay if you need a specific HQ

Yes, GW is reboxing some stuff. Compounded by the fact that new editions = sales bump, GW is having a period of temporary unavailability.
In the case of any sold out minis, it may be a while before they are back in stock - GW can only do so many production runs at once, and they have a busy release schedule ahead of them.

Literally nothing I want to buy is currently available.
I mean, you'd think that someone down at GW hq in charge of logistics would have considered re-boxing all this stuff before 8th ed. dropped.
It's extremely frustrating.
Honestly if I was upper management at GW right now, I'd be having a gak hemorrhage over the fact that a new edition has dropped and over half of the models are currently unavailable. The impact that this could have on potential new players is disastrous.

AoS is pure garbage
Kill Primaris, Kill the Primarchs. They don't belong in 40K
40K is fantasy in space, not sci-fi |

Not as disastrous as their pricing model though. I would not have started 40k had it not been for the AoBR box set being sold for £40 in my closest GW. Finding out that these days a single infantry model can set you back £35 makes me despair for the future of wargaming.

Not just new players - the lose in revenue should be giving them a hemorrhage. People are only going to be exited about the new edition for so long, before work, kids, and other hobbies demand their attention again.

I don't want the best army, just one that isn't an exercise in picking up my models by turn 3.

If I had 100 + Drukhari kits all in plastic to choose from, or 100 + Sisters kits, I think I'd be more likely to be receptive to Space Marine player's complaints about anything.

They're all "Temporarily Out of Stock Online" and not "Last Chance to Buy", therefore they're still around.
Half of my army is Out of Stock Online at any given time [you'd think that'd be a sign to GW that we're more popular than they think we are], and it generally comes back into stock every few months or so.
The fact that all this stuff is out of stock is both a good and bad sign. While it means that people have bought it, it also means they can't sell more of it, which in turns means fewer people who want to buy it can buy it, and those people may decide not to play with toy soldiers while waiting a month to be able to buy it.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |
