I need clarity with the 8th ed deathguard rules.

I originally planned to play a deathguard list but wanted a heldrake in the list, so I have since changed my faction keyword for the army to "nurgle", not "deathguard". As heldrake does not have the keyword "deathguard" ....So far all is ok.

So my list has plague marines, Do they now lose the deathguard special rules of them going from elite to troops or do I still keep this rule as they still have the "deathguard" keyword in their data. (even though I am using "nurgle" as the linked keyword for the faction.

I hope I have explained this okay as it can be confusing to type.

Thanks in advance

As far as I know they remain troops as long as you choose the Deathguard keyword in place of their legion, even if you include them in a non-Deathguard detachment. However, the new Deathguard codex might make things more complicated for you. If I had to guess they will probably introduce bonuses for detachments that are fully Deathguard aligned.

It is the unit's keyword that matters currently, not the army. So you can mix other legions in and keep plague marine troops so long as the plague marines have the deathguard keyword.

So a single helldrake is a non issue
