Hey guys,

Thought I would start a thread to cover my painting of Fantastic Saga warbands. I have a crazy idea to paint up about half a dozen of them. Some are already started, some the figures are lurking in the back of a cupboard somewhere, some are just pipe dreams at the moment.

Fantastic Saga is a free mod to the very popular dark ages skirmish game Saga. A warband comprises a warlord, elite troop in multiples of 4, standard troops in mulitiples of 8, levy troops in multiples of 12. The fantasy add on allows for monsters, creatures and contraptions and magic users.

Without further ado, let's kick off with the Undead of Stonegrave Moor.

The first thing I did was to paint a unit of ghouls, they are regular warriors in the FS game, made from plastic Hobbit goblins - these are great little models, no assembly required and easy to paint. The butcher I am going to class as a monster. So a decent start of two points for the Undead force. Standard (historical) Saga is usually played at 6 points, whereas fantasy we have found plays best at around 10 points. My aim is to build forces at 12 or so points to give me a little flexibility in gaming options - and more lovely stuff to paint of course.

Next I painted some zombies. I was going to paint just one unit because they are fairly poor in game, but I had enough figures for two units so just blasted through them. They are mostly mantic plastics, with a few GW and Wargames Factory bits. There are also two metal Confrontation "leaders".

Finally, after all those zombies, I treated myself to a character - a necromancer figure from days of yore. An old metal GW figure (for any young uns here ).

That makes another three points painted (two levy units plus a magic user). Next up, three points of elite troops, then the warlord.
