Edit: Massive changes after talking this over with some people. Starting the thread from scratch. :]
So the point of this army is to multi-purpose my Ork army into a counts as Imperial Guard army, fully WYSIWYG. The theme of the army is Meks gone wrong, so it will have a bit of an AdMec feel but also opens up a lot of cool conversions.
Company Commanders = Meks
Each of these comes with a Plasma Pistol look alike on the model so nothing really needs to be done to these.
Tempestor Prime = Moonclan Grots
These are the Meks lieutenants who go with and influence the more bionic Orks. Each of these will have the normal Spear on the model cut and replaced with some kind of control rod, preferably obviously technological. They'll also be on mechanized platforms, likely something with legs, in order to be the proper height and a bit easier to pick out from the crowd.
Conscripts = Ork Boyz
These will be a large bulk of the army and intended to represent the rabble that the Meks control. By and large these are just normal Ork Boyz although I will include Lasguns "fused" to their existing weapons to show additional "equipment" from the Meks. These are the models I could use the most advice on as I'm not sure how to make them look convincingly weak so as to represent S/T 3.
Tempestus Scions = Ard Boyz
Each of these will a Space Marine Backpack with a scratch built servo-arm holding their gun. They'll also have running out of the exposed skin into the backpack, representing them being a bit more enhanced and under the control of the Meks. Special Weapons will be Tau weaponry as this ties in with my other army and it seems like something Orks would loot and integrate. I'm not sure what to use for Hot-Shot Las yet though. Each of these will also have a full face mask, I think that conveys less personality which is the goal.
Heavy Weapon Teams = Moonclan Grots
Each of these will have the lower face covered with green stuff and have wires running out into other parts of the body, much like a Tech Priest. These are supposed to be the Servitors/early experiments who aren't quite combat ready. All of the HWS in my army have Mortars which will be scratch built and also look a bit more experimented on. My hope is that each has a control panel and other minor touches.
Commissar = Pianboys (Old Metal Modesl)
These represent the more fleshy side of the Meks experiments which the Orks are less than keen to undergo. As with most of the army I'll do some enhancements to these models, I can also have Commissar Hats printed just to make them a bit more obvious.
Primaris Psyker = Moonclan Grots
Each of these will have a very similar to a Warlock Engineer, representing their abilities coming from science instead of actual psychic power. Each will have a staff with some electrical energy running around it to further drive that theme home.
Nork Deddog = Warboss
The classic Black Reach Warboss will work well for this since he's already a bit bionic looking. My goal is to make this model look more like a golem, a mindless protector probably fashioned from the former leader of the band. This model will probably have the most enhancements to make him look less like a Warboss.
Sergeant Harker = Nob
Like most of the other leaders this model will have a back-mounted series of servos holding two Big Shootas to represent Harkers gun. I also want to outfit him with some speakers/comm system to represent the aura he gives to the army.
===========================================================
I think all the above gives my army a much more cohesive theme than it would otherwise have and gives me some small but fun projects to work on. The models I'm having the most trouble with is the basic rank and file Orks, giving them some IG bits does work with the theme a tad but not as much as I was hoping. Overall I'd much prefer to use Grots but that would be cost prohibitive for the quantities I need. I see the Conscripts as pure cannon fodder that the leader models influence and use to keep themselves out of the action. I'll be labeling all the Characters on the bases and I think all the weapons I have in mind should be WYSIWYG enough for a tournament. Thoughts?
