Over the years I've come to have a pretty big collection of dice of all sorts. Among them is plenty of D12s which was what I initially was gonna use as wound markers, red D12s to make them pop at the table. As an IG player, nothing save the biggest tanks has more then 12 wounds so its fitting!
Then I came to think of Bolt Action and its "pin markers" that came with the second edition starter set. These are small 3D tokens with a turn dial that ranges from 1-12 and will work perfectly for tracking wounds!

If the base is painted in a darker colour the numbers can be highlighted white for better visibility!

Just a tip as these are sold separately as we'll!
Whats everyone else using to track wounds?

Nottingham (yay!)

For most games I use Red D6's that stand out. For big spectacles I've got bases with splats of gore on them; 28mm for 1W, 40mm for 3W, 60mm for 9W. So you get heavily wounded models walking around with a trail of blood behind them.

I'm thinking of using maybe using old glass markers that I have lying around from back when I played TCGs in high school.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Avoid anything from Warlord Games if you can (mediocre quality and prices normally suck).

I do think a simple 5/1 would work well for counters, particularly with vehicles. Realistically for 90% of what you're using a simple D12 would work and won't be confused at all when placed on the table (doesn't look great).

I did up a wound chart which I'll probably laminate and just use a dry erase marker to keep more clutter off the table.

I have a dice bag for Pathfinder, Infinity, Magic and other games I play at the same place, all in different colors, so I'm never lacking markers. I simply use the smallest dice I can for wounds left on the model. Wound my 5 Wound or less model, I'll put a D4 next to it. Wound my 16 Wound Land Raider, I'll use a MTG Spindown. Wound a Dreadnought and I'll grab a D8. I haven't seen it get too cluttered in 2k games.

We've been using weighted poker chips. A terminator and smaller can stand on them, larger and the chips go on or next to their base.

Probably work

Not sure yet. I've been using d12s just because there's zero chance I'll accidentally pick them up. I've been considering a new system though.

I've been thinking about a numbered wheel with a magnet that you put under your base, with another magnet in your base (my bases are largely magnetized for transport in a metal tool box) You paint a little line on the side of your base, and then you just turn the underlying wheel whenever you take a wound, or if you can't get to it because of melee combat, just turn the model slightly. The wheels then move with your model, and the friction between the base and the wheel makes sure that it doesn't move unless you want it to.

If the wheels were made out of something ferrous, then you might not even need a magnet on them, allowing them to be even thinner so long as you don't lacerate yourself in the process.

I just use an index card and mark it all out. Making sure that my opponent can see it.

Though when I use "markers" I just use dice that stand out. Either metallic dice or colors that sound out.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

MTG dice in my case. Some of my larger Tyranids have quite a few wounds, and the 'tick down' arrangement of the numbers on the dice is helpful They stand out too, so there's no chance of getting them mixed up with regular dice.

for vehicles, I have been thinking of placing a numbered dial inside, with a hidden handle out the top or back, and a small window you see the number in. I planned to just print my own dial and mount to plastic, but if anyone sees a small enough plastic dial that would work, suggestions would be appreciated.

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.
