Ordered my self the codex the cards a dread because it's is awesome looking and a reiver squad was so tempted to order 2 reiver squads but couldn't pass up on the dread.

Has any one else decided to partake in the new pre orders?

There's almost never any reason to pre-order from GW. They don't ship until the day the stuff is released so at best you get your stuff a week later than everyone else does, even if you have them deliver to a local GW store.

Just order through your LFGS and that way you get it on time.

True. I always try to purchase through my local shop. That said, none of the new releases are that enticing except for the codex, but as I'm currently running chaos I'll wait and see if theyre doing a softcover for the loyalists.

A lot of the new models look cartoony to me.

We don't have the same issues with mail order over here - we can order from 3rd parties for a hefty discount and get our stuff on day of release (sometimes the day before or the day after depending on the whims of the postal service).

We're also not dependent on stores for our gaming communities, privately run clubs is where it's at, so the whole "support your LGS" doesn't really factor into it.

with respect you may not game in stors but you are, in the long run dependant on your LGS, the LGS's are what bring new blood into games etc. without a healthy gaming store your community will wither over time

I will get the SM codex but I think I will wait until release and just get the digital version. In regards to the new miniatures, I personally don't like the look of them (except maybe the new chaplain) so I will not be buying any of them tbh (I have enough marines anyway, maybe if they brought out new stuff for my existing marines but to start a new with primarius stuff...bugger that). However, I hope a lot of you do (keeps this game in production I suppose).

Same here. A total lack of LGS in my particular arse end of the UK combined with work commitments means that mail order of some kind is my best bet.

Gw deliberately killed of LGS in the UK during the 90's so we mostly play in small communities at each others houses.

As such every purchase is ebay or a third party site, never pay retail for gw stuff.

Definitely going to buy the Reivers (they will look great once I replace those silly childish skull masks) and the dreadnought for my current Primaris painting project (I am in a challenge to have an entire army finished within 6 months ).
Probably not going to pre-order them. I see no need to do that, and even if I did I would need to wait until I have the money to spare.

I am preordering the Codex, Reivers, and a Redemptor. Aggressors don't really trip my fancy. I have too many units that do the same thing as them. Reivers are just cool. I really love Dreadnoughts. Codex is a must.

*shrug* Never had a LGS nearby. The closest thing was a scruffy model shop that carried a few kits and books. GW tactics or not that was never going to survive the internet once its regular customers died off. Even now the nearest gaming store is a GW, and that's only about half an hour closer by car than WH world.

I pre-order from element games online store where i get most of my stuff. I don't have a local gw store or such closest is around 45-55 minutes away so seems a huge waste of time to me to go there.

As for the new units looking childish can't say i agree although i do think some of the paint jobs are the cause of most of the dislike for gw stuff.

Only stuff i am waiting on next is the tank and the new bolter troop box as i have seen they have 3 choices of bolters and option for underslung grenade launchers don't want or need any more plasma guys and don't want anymore jump pack guys.

Most of my army will be bolter guys and reavers with dreads and tanks as already have 2 squads of the jump troops and 2 of the hell blaster squads and the box's for ether of these hold no new stuff i want. I may get some of the gravis armour guys way down the line but not in the near future and not sure about any more characters maybe a librarian or medic but not sure

Yeah but down under is screwed in terms of prices to begin with, I'm always surprised gw made any headway there at all.

It's a mostly second hand market I think. The prices are insanely expensive, I've got thousands of points worth of guard and I think I've only ever bought two scion squads and a taurox from them. Even the paint can be found elsewhere for cheaper.

I can't imagine there is a ton of headway made, it shows. All of my local stores have shut down, only way I could get to one would be to spend like two hours travel to go into the big city.

I don't agree at all. Plenty of new players get into the hobby via other players or clubs (wargaming is much bigger in the UK than in north America).

Many independent game stores (if you even have a local independent retailer) don't even have a table for people to play on because playing in store really isnt a thing for most people.

And we've got omni-present GW stores (140 of the 460 stores are in the UK).

Not pre-ordering anything until my dexes are out.

8th is on hold.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Chaos and Dark Eldar - so not long to wait until DG and generic Chaos get released.

Atm just enjoying my DKoK side project.

I would be preordering 2 or more Repulsors but blasted GW is making me wait for that one!

Honestly I'm kinda tempted to start a space marine collection just because the new models do look great and I like the overall direction they kinda have. So far I've held off.

Isn't GWs stocks and gross earnings going up? I thought they did pretty well last year... I understand a lot is from video games but still they made a decent profit I thought.

Its more to do with the pound going down compared to other currencies.

The actual difference is 7% which is not a bad improvement but its brexit that gave them the bump rather than 40k suddenly becoming massive again.

Do a search for 'Financial Report' and you'll see an interesting thread on it. Since GW is publicly traded, several players are stockholders and it always makes the discussions interesting.

On preorders, I haven't yet but am eagerly looking forward to when GW turns their eye to Astra Militarium stuff again.
