Just to make sure i am reading and or doing this right.
If a unit of marines is fighting a unit of marines in a crater/ruins trees etc and shoots their bolt pistols the enemy would get cover (they are infantry)
Nom infantry would not ofc since they are not obscured.

on the other hand Nobz they decided it was in the best interest of ork society that they "Go Green" as such they specifically modified their warbikes to not make giant smoke, dust, grit, clouds. Instead they are all about driving with clean air, one might say their bikes Gak out rainbows.

Been playing it that Close combat negates cover, thus pistol shots fired at your opponent in your scenario would mean no cover saves.

I think your reading too much into abstract rules.
Units within ruins or a crater receive cover.
Two opposing INFANTRY units in the same crater or ruins both would get cover from each other.
Barricades give cover if your behind them from an opponent. Two units on each side of the barricade are still behind them from each other.
Note: The negation of cover in the FIGHT phase doesn't negate cover in the SHOOTING phase.

That's your House Rule. By the Rules, cover saves apply as normal to a Shooting attack with a Pistol, whatever the distance.
