Why are the catachans sold out everywhere?

Im just wondering why catachan stuff seems to be hard to find on gw's website? are they updating models?

Because they've been, more or less, just selling through old stock and then making small amounts to replenish it.

Catachans are not hot ticket items. There's a reason why they have been "Direct Only" for a long while.

On top of that, quite a lot of things are sold out at the moment - I suspect they have been making an extra effort to sell through old stock so that they can repackage with datasheets for 8th edition.

No. The boxes are being repackaged for 8th to include datasheets for the unit.

As I've explained in other "out of stock, the sky is falling" threads, GW owns a set of pressure mold machines that they do product runs on. They enough of one specific product to fill their expected sales of that product over the period between then and when they can next run that product. They then switch molds and run another product, and then switch molds and run another, then another, etc..

When a product goes out of stock, it's because GW did not anticipate the correct amount of stock between runs of that product.
