So after a discussion I saw on these boards I'm moving forward with the idea of creating an all dread army just for gaks and giggles. So my question is this: I'd like to take some FW dreads (namely the leviathin) and dont want to use SW or BA tactics. Is there another way I can legally bring this list. I.E. is there anyone else that can bring a Dread HQ?

Imperial Armour: Index Forces of the Adeptus Astartes is what you're looking for, available digitally and therefore relatively affordably.
He's an HQ, adds strength to allies in combat with whatever he's in combat with, has a 6+ feel no pain, and is very easy (in fact, probably very fun) to convert.
You probably want techmarines anyway to repair and keep them effective longer...
That said, I'm kind of baffled by the fluff indications of a bunch of dreadnoughts off by themselves making war. How did it happen? Are they lost? Is their chapter looking for them? Did they stage a daring breakout to relive their glory days?

Grandpanoghts got lost on their where to the vegas planet and are wandering the wastes looking for the mythical early bird special.
1 vanguard with 1 chaplin + two Doomglaives and the other with the rest of the Dreadnoughts in order to get chapter tactics with them. I personally would take the raven guard for the -1 to be hit.

yes, exactly that. I could use techmarines "gone rouge" and stolen dreads to reprogram for his personal revenge campaign.
but mostly its because: big stompy robots.

aux eats a CP. you would be at 1 CP if you did that. (wait nvm you are counting the initial 3)
Yeah just do
Vanguard detachment ironhands or whatever
double Chap D all the venerables and mortis
and do a tech marine and doomglaves in the other and you save your self a CP.
id also like to see more lascannons for first turn firebase.

Like The Way, but with explosions and wrecked xenos vehicles.
Well it's still a battleforged army. My breakdown was caused by Battlescribe telling me where it was from.
If you grabbed 1 techmarine (HQ) + 2 Doomglaives + 1 Venerable in 1 vanguard and the rest in a second vanguard. Then you have 5 CPs. I really only put the techmarine in there because I only had 119 points left over.
Some of those choices are technically me looking at my own dreadnought collection. I would definitely given infinite spare cash put some of the bigger dreads in that.

Or they assume as much, but actually tech-brother Galleus is desperately chasing after them in foot. Increasingly desperately clinging to the hope he can coral them back to the base before anybody notices they're gone

Why does that sound like your techmarine got his brain replaced with that of a mekboy?

^ This. IF you are okay with ForgeWorld, you can take the chappie dread for any chapter.
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

My blog
While not what you asked for aestetically, but very similar statsvice: The best 'all dreadnought' army could be Tyranids. Just field hive tyrants and carnifexes. Lots and lots of carnifexes. You will probably also go first as 3 carnifexes can be taken as one deployment option.
If you are into FW you can do the stone crusher carnifex as well.
If you want to make it a tad more comptettive make your HQ choise be malathrope broods instead of hive tyrant. 9 wound character, and your oponent gets -1 to hit on all your dreads. They also deoploy as a brood. So you can easaly have just 4/5 deployments and field 12/15 MC's.
big tyranid monsters may be a follow upo but it just doesnt get my rocks off like big stompy robots. I'm thinking: a leviathan, 2 doritos, 2 contemptors, a chaplain dread and fill the rest with venerable dreads

Because of you I am now going to buy a Ven Dread and convert it up to be a chaplain dread just so I can have my own Dread Army.
And I will get a wig with Dreadlocks to go with it.

Make sure to keep a copy of the index on hand: They've taken away a few of your options in the codex, most notably the venerable with quad Autocannons which is one of the best dread loadouts period.
Dunno about the OP but that doesn't affect me, since all my dreads are vanilla kits.
Although I still prefer using just indexes. A lot simpler and less possible imbalances.
