So, with the new FAQ the ability take understrength units is severely restricted. However, the new snap fit Intercessor and Reiver reiver kits are supplied with a datasheet for three-man unit. This is a perfectly legal dataslate, right? It is (annoyingly) restricted to Ultramarines only, but technically as long as you don't take any upgrades not mentioned in the datasheet, you can put these tiny units in any detachment, or at least so it seems to me.

Thoughts?

I think the codex will overrule the datasheet because it's newer, but I wouldn't be 100% sure.

The "restriction" is only in matched play. I am assuming that GW assumes if you're the kind of nasty WAAC player who plays matched play and not their preferred "Open Play buy our models" player, you'll buy enough models to make a legal unit.

Hmm. The matched play point cost chart actually probably prevents this, as it lists the minimum unit size... Maybe. What happens when the datasheet gives different unit size than the point index?

The singularity collapses and we require errata to fix it.

How do you determine points though? Arent those only in the index and therefore you have to use the squad sizes presented there if you want to use points?

Presumably yes. It will be confusing for new players though. It's even worse in AOS, where the dataslate in the book sometimes gives different unit size than the point cost section...

Matched Play Points are posted on line whenever a new box comes out. It's stupid but it lets them change points costs on the fly I suppose.

I dont think they are posted without unit sizes though

edit: Yeah, Reivers are 5-10 on the free points pdf. Intercessors don't have a download at all. So you're stuck with 5 being the minimum squad size as per index.
