I have some regular Assault marines, can I just paint them as DC and that's cool or do I actually need to purchase Death Company and then give them jump packs?

Yes, absolutely. They should be somehow identified as death company so that your opponent knows what they are on the battlefield.

But as far as models are concerned, it's your army, use whatever models or colour scheme you want. The only issue that comes up is that whatever you are attempting to represent on the table top should be pretty obvious as to what it is.

Kill Primaris, Kill the Primarchs. They don't belong in 40K

You can totally use regular assault marines to represent Death Company if you wish, just be sure to paint them appropriately so that they look like Death Company (Black with red X's on the shoulder pads and other appropriate places like the knee pads, top of the jump packs, and backs of the hands).

Hope that helps. Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Definitely. The main visual cue that separates DC from normal BA is heir color scheme.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Just to clarify, they don't actually have to be painted Black. They can be whatever color you choose. Some chapters use white for instance. And I've seen some DIY chapters use red armor with black/white surcoats to represent them. Just make sure they are visually, easily identifiable as Death Company.

Paint them pink and polka dot green for all the rules care. So long as they are clearly identified as death company then go nuts. Above and beyond that I would say make SOME attempt at making the models look like death company (Jump Packs, correct CCWs etc)

And for the record, most people wouldn't be able to tell a Death Company from a normal BA marine anyways if they were painted the same. To non-BA players, they're all basically fancy michaelangelomarines.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Thank you guys! They already have all the right weapons and are blood angels already so a solid repaint should have them looking fly! Just wanted to make sure before I did the repaint!
