He's beautiful. I love the colors used, quite different to the usual blue you see, but it still absolutely works.

The highlights look like they took forever!
Your friend has done an excellent job.

I think the only thing I'd comment on is that the base needs a bit more highlights or something to give it some sort of interest.

I think there's plenty of skill there and honestly I think it'd look amazing on the table-top, from table-top distance. As it is with many super high-res photos, it looks almost comically highlighted if that makes sense.

So I think with a finished base and taken from a bit more distance on a beautiful tabletop this thing would be killer.

It's akin to stage makeup (if you've ever seen stage performers up close). Stage makeup is super heavy and exaggerated so it's more visually apparent to people in the 30th row. This is how this model comes across to me. A bit too much for this close!
