Subject: Few questions about genestealers...

So the idea is that I am making a Tyranid army that gives that Aliens feel without needing to make any conversions. I plan to buy the Space Hulk Genestealers, regular purestrain genestealers, the patriarch & broodlord models, rippers, infestation bits as spores (they look like eggs), trygons, some old school ripper jacks (facehuggers), & Sector Mechanicus Industrial Bases for all the minis. I will add a couple dead Cadians (painted up to look like Colonial Marines) to some of the bigger bases to add to the Aliens vibe.
The list is something like this-
Swarmlord (using old tyrant queen looking head), 4-6 broodlords/patriarchs, 80+ genestealers (xenomorphs), 2-4 trygons, 1-3 ripper swarms (chestbuersters), 1-3 Infestation (Spore Mine Cluster (like Aliens eggs)... I'll add some ripperjacks onto some of theses bases too.
So, are genestealers on 32mm bases?
What sprue or box do the infestations come from?

I think Genestealers still use the 25mm bases, but in all honesty would probably be better on the 32mm bases if you have a choice. Their arms come so far out from their bodies that if you actually try to get them into physical base contact they'd be hanging off of the enemy models (my playgroup usually puts them about a quarter inch to the enemy base and call it "good enough").
Ripperjacks are perfect for Rippers as in the 3rd edition codex they specifically used these as an example of converted "winged rippers" (or skyslashers, as they're now known as).
As for the infestation thingys, they use to come four on the Battle for Macragge sprue. After those went out of production, they now come on the Purestrain Genestealer sprue. The GS sprue comes with two versions: 2 with 3 "Clusters" and 2 with 2 "clusters".

Wow! That is perfect news! Thank you.
skyslashers? Even better use for them!
BTW, would you object to infestations counting as spores? Anyone?

Considering you can get the same results as a GW sporemine by taking some craft beads and string and then coating the resulting sperm-like thing in hot glue gun, I think this would be a much better alternative.

Standard genestealers are indeed on 25mm base, but the two purestrain gs in the deathwathch overkill box are on 32mm bases if i remember correctly.

At this point it is wiser to base new genestealers on 32mm bases. It is pretty obvious as that is the base they'll end up when the get eventually reboxed. 25mm is painfully too small for them.

Indeed, I'd go with 32 based on Overkill. Several of the hybrids are on 32, and pure strains look decidedly odd on 25 next to them.
Though with neophytes, I put the heavy weapon guys on 25 just so the unit looks coherent.

Yeah, 32mm for me. I was going to use the Sector Mechanicus bases for that Aliens/LV-426 vibe anyways!

I am working on an 8th edition Tyranids Army, with an Aliens vibe. I wanted to post some pics here as a resource to others. I plan on using Space Hulk & regular genestealers, broodlords, swarm lord, rippers (chestbursters), spores (using infestations aka alien eggs), & gargoyles (using ripperjacks aka facehuggers). I plan on placing everything mainly on Sector Mechanicus bases & a few Sector Imperialis bases. There is a lack of photos of how Space Hulk Tyranids fit on 32mm & 40mm bases. Most Space Hulk minis will need the flat blue part of their existing bases cut off to work well on the nice sector bases. The beam ones are easiest, just cut off the lower horizontal parts and the angled portion looks fine on the sector bases. The larger, and bursting, should use a standard plain base, IMHO, but trimming excess flat blue off the bases they'd work with a little overhang to them. I'll keep you posted on my project progress.
