So I am finishing up my nurgle plague drone, the eyes are the next part to do. I saw a method of painting gems in the CMON book I have bought.

A picture to show you what I mean

Just wondering if this would translate well to painting big bug eyes, it might need to be modified to suit eyes better.

Definitely those plague drones eyes are begging for something like this

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

Yes... and no.

You get similar effects on bug eyes, but not quite so pronounced. Look at pictures of real bug eyes and look for one that a) catches your interest, and b) you realistically think you can duplicate in paint. But the concept is solid.

(The trick is, as always, finding one picture that does both...)

Its probably the quickest way to get a lens look. but for a real bug eye which are often compound eyes...... gosh i think the easiest way to do that is to do an ungodly amount of dots.

You would want to base the whole thing at the darkest color.

then do a mid colored dots as evenly as possible then in the upper highlighty areas go with a lighter dot color eventually to white maybe.

yeah i didn't think real bug eyes would look much like that, maybe their ocelli eyes might look a bit like that, i'm not sure compound eyes would be possible for me to paint anyway.. probably need to more suggest at the detail rather than create it all, i might have to be less grand and not have it anything like realistic and instead just admire what it looks like even if its light years from reality.

What about painting over a mesh template?

what like a hexagonal mesh? as compound eye facets are often that shape , i'm thinking it would have to be very very small, not sure how visible it would then be.

I decided to go a bit simpler and try this in the link. Might not do the glow though we will see how it looks once i've lightened the eyes and highlighted, though the glazing I am doing almost highlights itself.
