Hey guys !

Vespids are super strong right now and GW models are ugly. This is my recipe for proxies. It's not cheap, but it looks awesome !

Fire Warrior bodies, Breachers guns and shoulder pads, Pathfinder helmets, Scourge backpack, Reivers grav wings. Tadaaaaaa !

Usually this kind of thing should go into Painting and Modelling (and possibly even showcase).

That said, these look awesome. I might take it to build some XV15 Stealthsuits.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Thanks for posting this - they look great!

There really needs to be more discussion about proxies for Vespid, because GW's Vespid look terrible. They certainly don't look very insectoid and they definitely don't look like they're capable of biological flight.

Alternatives I've considered:

- Drone surfing fire warriors
- Old metal stealth team with crystal tipped weapons
- Nurgle plague drones, cleaned up a bit (hey, they're bugs!)
- Jet packed fire warriors, making the jets out of drone undercarriage and the pulse carbine photon grenade launchers
- fire warriors with the Red Dog Miniatures jetpacks. This is problematic for GW tournaments

None of these ideas have really done it for me, though, so I'm still considering. Does anyone have other ideas?

These are really excellent, and look so much better. I'd still prefer aliens but until GW update those models it'll have to be proxies - and yours are the best I've seen!

Thanks guys. I was really looking for a way to field them since the index release.

I totally understand and I'm the opposite haha. I don't like having weird aliens in my clean, factory produced T'au army haha.

One thing i forgot to add, while focusing on the conversion, those are some lovely painted models. Really great scheme. Almost like a Tau Raven Guard unit.

While they're cool and work well I suppose, I definitely prefer actual alien mercenaries --- but I agree the Vespid are heinous. So put me in the "neither" camp at the moment. However it's cool you did the conversions and they seem to represent them fine, so I doubt anyone would have an issue playing against them.

I've thought about it, especially for Kroot Hounds, but nothing came out yet haha.

It's not as much as hating alien helpers, it's hate those old models GW has. I've heard a rumor saying there will be new alien mercenaries coming for T'au soonish, and I'm excited to see what it is =]

Here's an old 5th edition attempt at vespid proxying. I was never happy with it, but it only took a gun drone underchassis, a fire warrior and some miscellaneous pulse carbine bits.

Haechi, what's a scourge? (what you listed as the backpack's origin.)

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Unlike most I actually like the official Vespid models (although I wish they were in plastic and more than 3 poses), but these conversions are very well done! The paintwork is pretty awesome as well!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Looks great - better than mine! The braid is particularly excellent - super dynamic! I did this one before I knew what Vespids were actually going to look like:
