Hello DakkaDakka Friends,

I love making 40K campaigns, and after several years of trying different things out my friends and I have developed a 40K Roster Campaign system. We are very proud of how it turned out, so we wanted to share it with as many 40K fans as possible! However, we have only been able to playtest on a small scale, so we are also hoping to get your help! Our rules are in a draft format, and we want to publish a final version in February 2018 that includes playtesting reports and artwork submitted to us by fellow fans before January 31, 2018.

We started a Blogger site to help us host the files and keep track of things: http://farfuturecampaigns.blogspot.com/

The Roster Campaign has both players develop a 8,000-point roster at the start of the campaign, and the rules then take the players through a series of eight missions where they have to draw army lists from what units are left in their roster. The Roster Campaign also includes casualty management rules, so depending on how the missions go, soldiers in your army may become hardened veterans that fight stronger than before, might suffer temporary injuries that cause them to miss out on a mission or two, or may be permanently disabled or killed and removed from your roster. By drawing lists from a single roster and introducing casualty management, players must carefully manage larger forces, must make hard choices about who to risk on missions, and can easily string missions together to make a fun story! The campaign rules include faction bonuses to add some flavor--Necrons are better at recovering their wounded, Dark Eldar can take slaves, Orks can loot abandoned vehicles and weapons, and much more!

The Roster Campaign is similar to the old Apocalypse/Cityfight/Planetstrike/etc books in that it adds on to the Warhammer 40,000 rules to allow players to play 40K in a new way. We also have a four-player version and a "Hard Mode" version available, and will develop more material as time goes on.

Please take a look and share with your 40K friends if you like it, I hope you enjoy the Roster Campaign!

Ha, interesting. I just put up a thread yesterday offering to organise just such a campaign for people on dakka lol. Though so far I've not had much interest.
I may take a look through what you've done, I wasn't going to use a roster-type system myself but it's an interesting idea to have a starting army force to draw lists from.

Well, actually i played such campaign we created wuth a friend and it turned out well. The main interest is that it forces you to manage your reserves carefully, the downside is that it is not balanced for armies such as orks that usually take more casualty than their opponent. But i can certify that the very principle of it is enjoyable, and so i will download your rules as well.

Thank you both for your interest! I would be glad to hear what you think if you get the chance to read the rules.

Niiru - The website has a two-player and a four-player version of the rules, so you should be able to run this campaign even if you can only find one other person. Good luck!

Maréchal des Logis Walter - I was also concerned about casualty rates for Orks/Tyranids/etc with big units so we put a recovery system in place where you can try to recover wounded soldiers. It isn't perfect but we thought it worked pretty well, though it is still a good idea to bring more reserves of infantry. The faction special rules also help balance this out--for example, Orks can gain new units by looting, and Imperial Guard can promote weak units to replace strong units that were killed. I am glad that you had fun with your campaign, we had a lot of fun testing our rules out and I hope you like them!

I am going out of town for the weekend but I will check back in on this thread Monday, thanks again!
