Picked up the Imperium 2 index today and was browsing through some of the fortification rules.
Are you using them? If so how?
If not, why not?
I liked the look of the bastion albeit its cost is a bit high perhaps. The VSG looks good but is probably a bit situational.

All the fortifications jumped sharply in price and dropped sharply in utility.
The Bastion and Vengeance batteries are usable, if annoyingly expensive. The rest not so much...

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

I put some centurions in a bunker once. They cost too much. If I played eldar I'd put reapers in one though - maybe a couple of squads.

I used to play crapptons of Fortifcations. Now, not really any. 8th really did not want people using them and to discourage their use, they raised their point costs considerably and made them overall worse. Though the Bastion might be the exception.
I have used it in several games, placing Combat servitors with grav cannons in them and it proved to be very effective. Due to the huge amount of firepower coming out, and durability of the bastion.
If 8th edition decides to overall anything from the indexes I truely hope its the Fortifications. As currently, they are so dumbed down and overcosted, its pretty much a non-starter. The AGES is 50 points overcosts (with cover being much less helpful for light infantry), and adding guns, which now cannot be manned and must fire at BS 2 and are also 25pts overpriced. The Void Sheild generator was overpowered and got nerfed as it should have, but now its current rules mean, just take the landing pad, it does the exact same thing but better and cheaper. Bastions are overpriced but situationally useful. Comepletly ignore all the other bunkers and trenches. Simply not worth their points, better to invest in more bodies.
The gun turrets/ vengeance batteries which used to be awesome are now hawt garbage when blast templates still were around, their BS could be ignored. But now you pay almost the cost of a Leman Russ with a battle cannon for a battle cannon that cannon move and must shoot the closest target and worse still has a BS of 2.
I am hugely disappointed in GWs rules for terrain and fortifications. Its obvious, they want to keep the game as simple as possible, and I get that, but having just a few more rules or special abilities would not upset the game so terribly if they made proper terrain and fortification rules. Removing ramparts and interior assaults is boring and sad.
The good news is, I think they will change the building rules and make terrain better and more dynamic because I am the only person I have talked to who has ever used a building or paid for one in a match. GW will not sit idle and watch their terrain sales plummet, they will give them new rules if only to keep their sales up.

I have many fortifications.
I'm a turtler by nature and that applied to my 40k armies as well -- I have VSG, Vengeance Weapon Batteries and a Fortress of Redemption. Used them a lot in 7th.
I'm quite depressed about them in 8th.
The Vengeances with the Battle Cannons have become basically useless.
The Fortress of Redemption has dropped about 20 in total capacity but can only hold 1 unit... so in reality that's more capability dropped. The BS of it is horrendous too (it becomes 7+ BS when at 1/3rd health.... so useless).
The VSG did need a nerf but it has been nerfed too far.
I shall wait for them to be balanced in a stronghold assault-esque book soon TM.

Devs in a Bunker seem OK, now you get to fire from any part of the model. Similar with the Bastion - it's tall, so it's hard to hide from.
