Defff dreads are bout 3 to unit, deploy in coherency, but after deployed they are treated as separate units.

Tau drones accompany many units due to drone support rule. They inherit the battlefield role of the unit the accompany and must deploy with them. After deployment, the drones are treated as a separate unit.

Neocons and tyrannies have similar rules.... I am guessing it do as well... but for victory points games where each unit killed earns a victory point, does one have to kill the original unit purchased, or does each 'treated as separate' unit earn VPs? Example would be in the mercy mission.

Has gw commented one way or other?

If they're treated as separate units after deployment, any VPs or other effects for killing a unit apply if you kill one of them. You don't have to kill all of the army list purchase entity to get the points.

Owner gains flexibility, opponent gains extra opportunities for dealing with them (in some missions).

Tyranid Spore mines have a special rule saying they don't give victory points so it's logical to assume that since these units don't have the same special rule, they do.

As it stands, they do give up individual Victory Points. Rather nasty for Mek Gunz/Big Gunz actually since each gun and individual crew give up a victory point. Yikes!
