I have a tournament coming up this Saturday, and I'd like to know if this list I'm figuring on bringing will work well for me. I used some of the Dark Angels lists from the ETC as inspiration, but tried to make mine a little more TAC than those ones (besides the fact that I don't own 5+ Dark Talons). Here's what I've come up with in Battlescribe:

Tactics will vary greatly depending on my opponent. Against a "deep strike" or other reserve shenanigan list (e.g. Genestealer Cult), or something like Ork Boyz with Da Jump, I'll castle up in a corner with the tacticals and devs as bubble wrap. With that kind of list, there won't be as many good targets for lascannons so the Devs will be expendable. Mainly I don't want the Land Raider to get locked in combat against a list like that as I will need that bullet hose firing every turn. Against a meched-up list, I'll probably deploy guys inside the vehicles to reduce drop count and perhaps end up going first. Of course drop count won't matter if I find myself facing 4 Knights or 3 Knights and Magnus or something. In that case I'll just use the tacs as a speed bump, although with this list something like 4 Knights will be an uphill battle for sure as they've got lots of shots. Still, that's what Azrael and the Darkshroud are for, right? I tried to put more bodies in the tactical squad in order to get more out of using them for bubble wrap. Otherwise I would have taken Intercessors as they are better than bolter Tacticals any day.

I'm very open to suggestions for how to improve on this list. I tried to optimize it as much as possible; I would have taken 2 Dark Talons instead of the Land Raider (adjusting/deleting other units as needed) but my Dark Talons are currently still on sprues and even if I work hard won't be ready by Saturday. I have a pretty good spread of other units, so I've got plenty of options from Dark Angels.

The list looks solid. No defense against Psykers but the only decent defense we have as DA players is Ezekiel or a Cullexus. I also like the Dark Talon over the Nephalim. The landraider is there for anti-horde I take it? The Dark Talon should fill that role for half the points. Free you up for some additional units.

I like the list. I played something very similar a couple of day ago against an ork horde. The Dark Talon and Crusader were great at clearing out da boys. Just make sure you keep the Talon away from weird boys haha. The + they get for being near boys can make smite hurt a lot.

The only nit picky thing I would change is 1 set of las devs to ML devs. Only reason being is that having them shoot frag into a horde of boys went a hell of a long way and I find with the reroll to hit/wounds they are pretty much just as effective AT weapons as the lascannons.

I feel the ML gave me a little more mobility since I could effectively wipe out a mob of orks between them and the tac marines without having to babysit the gunline as much with the razorbacks and what not.

Question for you fellow DA players... I see many people choosing the bolter primaris lieutenant over the power sword model. Any reason in particular? The sword seems more useful to me.

I actually take the one with the power sword more often just because he's painted and can be a little more useful for counter charges but I'd guess the bolter is because it has 30" range so the LT can do more than just look pretty most the game.

I did indeed take the Land Raider for anti-horde, on account of I don't have any Dark Talons usable (mine are both on sprues still at this point). Ultimately what I'd like to do is trim a few things here and there and replace the Land Raider with 2 Dark Talons in an Air Wing detachment along with that Nephy (who would then get a twin Lascannon instead of the Megabolter). As for the Missile Launchers on Devs, ML Devs are something I do plan to get at some point, but I don't have any now. They are pretty solid, although being only -2 AP on the kraks is what kills it over the Lascannon for me.

As for the Lieutenant, I like the rifle because of the range. The Power Sword is nice if you are running 2 or are wanting to run a Lieutenant with a melee-focused unit.

The lascannons are definitely better dedicated AT weapons but the ML is only slightly worse while still being effective against hordes which makes up for it in imo. Hordes worry me when I have all lascannons, especially with orks being a lot more durable this edition. That being said, i still think this is a solid list.
