Here's a quick rep for last nights game and we liked to share with you our new modular gaming table in action.

2000 points
4x8" table
Deployment: Hammer and anvil
Mission: Secure and Control


Setup:
We used ITC rules for giving only +1 to who goes first roll for the person who deploys first.
Imperium player won the roll of for choosing table halves and deployment map, but Chaos got the first turn.

Backstory:

Robert Guilliman's crusade has waged for weeks on this planet of debris and ruins. Guilliman has rallied all the great chapters for his crusade. Azrael the head of Dark Angels has decided to make a personal quest to a close by ruined city where his reconnaissance has reported sightings of a small fallen force. The location has little signs of fallen, but it seems that a full batallion of Kharn the Berzerker himself has lured his prey into the compound and is now rushing towards Azrael's location.

Azrael has to contact crusade command for immitiate suport. Closest help is a librarian dreadnought Lorannas of the Blood Angels chapter returning from a pre-emptive strike mission with his group of 1st company veterans. Lorannas knows the importance of Azrael to the crusade and is ready to be the speartip once more, even if it comes with a sacrifice, which is no new to him.

Azrael starts castling up and waits for the aerial support of the Blood Angels.



Here's the armies:

WYSIWYG & proxies:

Chaos player left his Kharn model home, so we had to subtitute it with my Astorath. Chaos army is wysiwyg, so are my Blood angels.
Dark angels have "borrowed" two predators from the BA and HKM is missing from the top. Also Devastator sergeant's storm bolter is a proxy.
Last but the most showing is the "darkshroud", which is just a regular land speeder WiP, but wanted the feedback how it works.
Everything else should be wysiwyg and tabletop quality.

Turn 1

POV: Chaos after deployment.

Chaos rhino's and helbrutes storm the front while heldrake swoops to engage Azrael's castle.
Shooting from the havocs and forgefiend manage to kill the devastator sergeant and drop one of the predators to 8 wounds.
Heldrake charges venerable dreadnought and one predator, but no damage from either sides.

Imperium turn, engaged dreadnought and predator move away for clear shooting.
Stormraven advances towards rushing chaos rhino's, one of the deepstrike reserved company veterans enter behind enemy lines.
Dakkatime! company vets manage to rapid fire a squad of havocs in one go. Gunline without dreadnought and one of the predators is a crippled one, but still they kill the heldrake.
Stormraven take wounds from Kharn's chaos rhino and one of the helbrutes.

Turn 2

Chaos continues to advance.

For the Khorne! Chaos rhino's advance and reach aegis fortifications. Hadesautocannon and havocs frag missiles manage to take out one lascannon devastator.
Multi-melta from the not advanced helbrute misses poorly. Quite insignificant turn for the Chaos.

Imperium decide that this is the moment to make the pre-emptive strike and kill the Kharn before it reaches Azrael.
Last deep strike reserve enters the table to flank havocs, both veteran squads take out the remaining havocs unit.
Stormraven drops it's cargo. Dreadnought and the predator regain gunline coherency for all the buffs. In the psychic phase librarian dreadnought gives +1 attack to vanguard veteran squad.

It's Dakkatime again!
Lascannon sponsons and devastators take out the undamaged helbrute. Venerable dreadnought, now with 3+ to hit take out the cribbled helbrute.
Second predator, now inside the aura buffet. take out Kharn's transport, which doesn't explode.
Stationary predator's predator autocannon and twin multi-melta from the stormraven take out the undamaged forgefiend.
Stormraven's hurricane bolters rapid fire (24 shots) and twin assault cannon take out a horde of Khorne berzerkers shots from the plasma pistols of vanguard veterans help in the cause.

When the guns go silent.

Both units vanguard veterans and librarian dreadnought pull their charges in with Kharn.

Kharn is surrounded!

Librarian dreadnought has only 3 attacks and Kharn rerolls one failed 4+ invulnerable save.
Kharn intervenes with a stratagem to attack before blood angel veterans. He attacks twice with 6 attacks which generate more attacks on rolls of 6 and Kharn hits on 2+ and his sword is ap -4. Only wounds on 5+, but he tries to kill the librarian dreadnought, managing to wound it some.
Vanguard veterans with 3 attacks / veteran and 4 attacks with relic blade manage to take two wounds off Kharn. So much for the pre-emptive strike, 4+ invulnerable save is beast (well imperium's gunline had it also, hehe).

Turn 3

Khorne berzerkers disembark from the chaos rhino's and one of the rhino's try to reach the gunline to take out few guns out for the turn.
Both intact berzerker squads charge. Lascannon devastator squad manages to kill two zerkers with overwatch, sweet Azrael.
Chaos rhino pulls it's charge into dreadnought.

After chaos movement.

Kharn and berzerkers get into work and they take out the librarian dreadnought and the vanguard veterans.
Dark apostle, all those double attacks from berzerkers and Kharn's sword, that's a frightning combo.
One devastator manages to survive the onslought.

Imperium movement.

It's dakkatime, once more! Remaining devastator passes morale and disengages combat for clear shooting at the berzerkers. Now that targets are getting thin, gunline overkills remaining berzerkers and Stormraven kills some more. Dark apostles manage to sustain a lot of dakka from the stormraven's hurricane bolters resulting into two wounds. At the end of T3, there's only Kharn, two dark apostles, three berzerkers divided in two squads and two chaos rhino's.

Score-wise, Imperium has 1 point from first blood, both sides would get line breakers, but imperium has both objective markers secured and controlled.

Turn 4

Kharn and dark apostle charge the venerable dreadnought, chaos rhino advances towards imperium table edge.

Kharn reaches the hill and engages the dreadnought with accompanying dark apostle.

In the imperium turn, dread disengages, stormraven joins Azrael for possible evacuation. Then it's time for the last dakka rain.

Gunline and stormraven open fire leaving chaos having one chaos rhino at 3 wounds and undamaged dark apostle. Chaos yields at this point.

Thoughts about the game.

- Going first is a big thing, atleast for chaos.
- Azrael's buffet, with lieutenant and darkshroud make a nice castle.
- I will reconsider having two twin autocannons, because a dreadnought without close combat weapon, is useless in combat.
- Librarian dreadnought doesn't have invulnerable save, so it's a must to cast when engaging close combat.
- Kharn and berzerkers are true beasts in melee with the double tap.
- This was our second 8th edition game and we only used the rule book when we setup the game, dataslates and weapon charts were naturally in use.
- Game took around 3,5 hours. Deploying and setup took time.
- Imperium MvP's were Azrael's buffs and stormraven.
- Chaos side commented that forgefiend isn't competitive. Imperium side thought chaos list was fluffy and had potential.

There you go guys, hope someone managed to reach here.

Feel free to suggest improvements on the battle report layout, got a new camera so still learning stuff with it.

Hey, sorry for whining for feedback, but I'm planning on making an another battle report and would like to know if the current layout is sufficient. Does it contain enough data to get a grasp on how the battle occurred and are the photo's informing enough?

Any kinda of suggestions for alterations would be most welcome, mostly I'm doing these for myself, but would also like that someone else could have a little information or enjoyment from these as well.

I liked it, but you should resize your pictures. They're pretty big.

I understood that some browsers doesn't automatically resize all images automatically to fit into screen. My chrome and firefox does this automatically, but when I tested with internet explorer I understood what's it like.

I'll changed the pictures to recommended sizes, but now for my eye atleast they feel too poor quality, wonder if there's something from between full picture size vs. these small images. I'm using "_sm" after the picture name, maybe that stands for small image, wonder what would be medium then..

But, anyways thanks for feedback, hope someone can read this now better, now that there shouldn't be browser/too large image issues. Pictures are full sized in my gallery anyway.
