If a flyer's base is in a ruin/forest and is 50% obscured does it gain the benefit of cover?

Why do you think it would not? It meets the criteria laid out in the rules, so it benefits. Keep in mind the actual model in it's entirety has to be 50% obscured, not just the base.

To be more precise: If the base alone is the only thing 50% obscured, then no, the model would not get cover.

The entire model needs to be 50% obscured, which includes its base as part of that.

And this all comes back to the question of exactly what it means to have 50% of a model obscured, something that is NOT answered in the rules, and therefore is totally up to discussion between the players to decide.

Some people might think it means 50% of the height of the model (which wound mean if a flyer's base is totally obscured, even if none of the flyer itself is, then the model is 50% obscured). Others would argue that its 50% of the total 'area' of the model which needs to be obscured (which means you'd have to estimate the total are of the base+flyer itself and figure out if 50% of the total area of the model is obscured).

For a flyer I'd play it as 50% of actual model obscured, ignore stand/base, as the thing trying to hide is the vehicle... the rest is part of a gaming piece and wouldn't be attached to an actual flying vehicle!

I actually think that your base doesn't need to be IN the forest. If the forest obscures 50% of the model using TLOS you'd get the cover save, no?

No.
There is no cover for simply blocking LoS anymore.

But lets be real for a moment a flyer is never going to get that cover bonus. Same with most vehicles. (Don't worry guys my work trukks are the tiny finger skateboards so can always hide ) but as said above if you in terrain and obscured from the firer you get cover.

on the other hand Nobz they decided it was in the best interest of ork society that they "Go Green" as such they specifically modified their warbikes to not make giant smoke, dust, grit, clouds. Instead they are all about driving with clean air, one might say their bikes Gak out rainbows.
