Taking fluff, appearance, and tabletop ability into consideration, which of these chapters would you choose to make an army of? Explained choices are appreciated.

In the casting shack.

For me personally I would choose Ultramarines, Primaris specifically because in my future head fluff Cawl turns traitor and pulls an order 66 so the Primaris Ultramarines lead my Roboute flee into the eye of terror to die fighting traitors as penatence.

If it's those two, gotta choose Ultramarines. Why?:

1.) You get to use the vanilla codex, which generally is up to date, tend to not suck, and have a wider variety of cool toys to play with.

2.) I find the yellow/gold pairs much better than the solid red or red and black of the Blood Angels.

3.) You get Guilliman. For better or for worse, he is pretty unique in terms of what he is and is still fun.

4.) Terminus Ultra. Just that

5.) You don't have to waste time wondering "Can I use this?", like BA did when the various terminators, contemptor dread, and formations dropped.

6.) I'm blue daba dee daba die

Adding Dark Angels to the mix.

Blood Angels. They're a bit less powerful than UM because of the codex, but their playstyle is mobile and fun, and their fluff and looks are top notch.

My reasoning still stands, with the addendum that:

2.) (in addition to the above) Dark Angel marines constantly reminds me of raw leeks due to green and whites. When you throw Ravenwing into the mix, it becomes burnt leeks. Neither of which I like (and this is coming from someone with half a company of Dark Angels).

The correct solution is to just paint your models however the heck you want and then use whatever rules you want for them. The rules don't care if your Dark Angels are Blue or if your Blood Angels are Green.

This, and the more magnets you use the better.

Blood Angels have been short-changed of late.

But Matt Ward is back at GW so I cannot endorse Ultrasmurfs and as a Space Wolves player I refuse to endorse Dark Angels.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Lets compare primarchs:

Guilliman: Bureaucrat, spiritual liege, stick up his ass.

Jonson: Angsty teenager.

Sanguinius: The true heir to the Emperor, died for our sins.

Easy for space vampires.

None, embrace Chaos.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Go for Lamenters (Blood Angels Successor). You are EXTRA LOYAL and the paintjob is a bitch to do so you'll get mad props for it.

I'd rock Blood Angels or Dark Angels - but skip the majority of the new "more emo, more vampire, more gold!" minis and return to an earlier simpler version.

Actually, a Fallen army would be pretty cool, and rarely seen. Though you might want to wait for an update on the Fallen, which may or may not be coming

I play both DA and Ultras, I find it scratches my Marine itch pretty well, with the DA offering a unique bunch of units, three different paint-schemes (with the three wings of the army), and three different styles of play. Ultras have access to everything under the sun, including a Primarch, and can be customized as a fighting force to meet any play style. Ultras are the ultra-safe choice

Yes, I have a few Dark Angels and love them but at the moment it's a Smurf World. I think the big blue always has been a safe choice but it doesn't mean it can't be an interesting one.

I concur. Though a little bit of silver or gold detailing to add some spice to the red and black isn't uncalled for.

Me, I use the modern BA stuff but with helmeted heads so I don't have to have them look like vampires (and so I don't have to paint skin).

The BA terminator and tactical squad boxes are gorgeous. Just need to skip the heads and they're perfectly fine.

I'd go Ultramarines. they're easy to paint, can be kept up to date. and despite all the flakk they get they're hardly any worse then the other chapters. hearing a space wolf player bitch about the ultramarines being special snowflakes is really comedic

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Orks is bestest.

But of the three,
I would choose DA.
More flavor.
Love some of the termies.
More fun to paint.
More conversion potential.
Better back story potential for a homebrew splinter faction.
Running from the law, that sort of thing.

Of the three definitely dark Angels. In fact they are one of the only two space Marines I would ever consider playing, the other being space wolves.

I like the models and I enjoy the painting theme, plus the whole fluff of dark angels fits my style.

I prefer Dark Angels. Blood Angels don't really fit in with the shooting focused meta, whilst Ultramarines were just completely gakified by Ward's fluff.
