About how many points of Death Guard would I have from all three of the starter sets? (Dark Imperium, Know no fear and First Strike)
1000? 1500? 2000?

Just looking for a rough estimate.

What else would be needed for a decent casual army?

Thanks!

Just wait for the Death Guard actual codex before plopping into a casual army for these guys - a load of new models on the way. I'm not sure what the point value is for the starter box though.

I've got the DI DG at 44 PL/ 835 points in BattleScribe. It's a great starting point, but not enough for an effective army. If you can grab the DI stuff cheap they are good models, but it seems like we're only a few weeks out from seeing the full DG release.

I shall tally this when I get home, because I got those exact things (minus the First Strike).

And given the teasers, I'm guessing the new plague Terminators/Deathshrouds/Death Guard Terminators/Periwinklebobbensteins are going to be needed, as well as the Plague Crawler tank. Not sure if the Beast of Nurgle thing will be a must take.

EDIT: did a quick eyeballing of the points and it comes to around 1400 points if you have all three, give or take 100 points. This assumes you're using both Lords of Contagions and all 36 poxwalkers. Realistically, it's about 1200 points as you realistcally won't be using all of the Poxwalkers (so you have some for them to "summon") and only be using one Lord of Contagion (or none at all).

Thanks, that's what I was looking for!

Maybe add Mortarion when he comes out and a vehicle or two...

Note that this was with the Index:Chaos point costs. If the CSM codex is any indication, Plague Marines will be dropping in points and probably getting new options, so take it as a "guideline" Only. I would say if you're aiming for 1000 points, it's a pretty good casual army. Otherwise you may need to get some more models.

I got 2 DG starter set halves from DI (one I bought and 1 I traded for my buddy's box set, he wanted my primaris). And then bought 1 box of the easy to build plague marines (n=3).

I converted the one contagion lord into Typhus. I easily put together 1500 points for a great fluff list (manually typing it here because left the app at home):
- typhus
- 2x plaguecasters
- two deathguard marine units, each one as below:
6 plague marines
1 with blight launcher
1 champion
Icon of Despair
- 2x Bloat-drones
- 2x20 Pox walkers
- 2xRhinos with 2xcombi-bolters and havoc launchers

tons of fun in fluffy list with all types of shenanigans. I do usually lose 2-4 pox walkers before they start coming back, so I've been good with the models I have. But with practice could see myself needing more pox walkers.

I agree though everything could change after the DG: Codex comes out...we'll see.

Yeah I'd expect the overall price to drop around 100 (maybe even 200) points overall, as everything is a bit overcosted.
