I am new to Warhammer and just really getting started with Space Marines.
I am using a Venerable DreadNought and was wondering if I take a Mortal Wound can I still roll Unyielding Ancient. I am guessing yes, but seems Mortal Wounds are in different league as normal hits.
Sorry for nub question....

Yes. Unyielding Ancient is not a save so mortal wounds don't ignore it.

Just an FYI. This could be considered TFG or WAAC, but if you take the Iron hands chapter tactics, you get to double down. A 6+ Feel no pain for the chapter tactics and Unyielding ancient.

This is in no way being TFG or WAAC. Being TFG would be not letting an Ironclad Dreadnought fire it's Meltagun after advancing due to RaW. WAAC would be individually resolving your attacks one at a time every single time in order to maximise damage on a multi-wound target unit. In fact, you could take a Venerable Chaplain Dreadnought from Forge World, make it your Warlord and make it IRON HANDS. 3+ Armour, 5+ Invul, Generic Warlord Trait 6+ FNP, Venerable Dreadnought 6+ FNP and Iron Hands Tactics 6+ FNP and in no way would you be TFG.

Omg, I didn't even think about the warlord trait!
Out of curiosity (sorry to derail the thread) but isn't firing the meltagun after advancing normal? Isnt the meltagun on the dreadnught an assault weapon? Or is there some other rule conflicting with the assault weapon rule?

Why stop there? Instead of the Generic Warlord Trait, give him the Space Marines trait that also gives +1 Wound.

Because then he becomes 10 wounds and can be sniped. Without it he is 9 wounds and a CHARACTER so the enemy can't even shoot him if he's behind some scouts.

It is normal.
However, there is a RAW loophole that breaks assault weapons.

It is normal.
However, there is a RAW loophole that breaks assault weapons.
To break this down a little:
RAW says that Assault weapons can be fired if you advance. No problem there.
RAW also says that a Unit which Advanced can't be chosen to fire in the shooting phase. Problem.
Since selecting a unit to shoot with comes before selecting weapons, technically the Assault weapon type is irrelevant as you never get the chance to invoke it.
This is however very clearly not RAI or how anyone ( TFG notwithstanding) would play it.

To add to this, RAW, it also breaks pistols. Since you cannot select a unit within 1" of enemy models to shoot in the shooting phase. Same rule, same problem, multiple broken weapon types.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Do we have to have this "RAW is broken for guns" stuff every other thread? Has anyone read the Tenets of YMDC article? That asks everyone not to use terms like TFG and WAAC as they derail threads like... well, this!
Most everyone can play the Assault and Pistol weapons rules just fine and knows what they mean. It's not showing any intellectual brilliance to constantly go over this ground... just move on! No one will play by 'that' interpretation so it's not worth wasting internet air over. Again.
