Hey guys, hopefully I'm putting his in the right area here
I haven't played 40k in a good four years or so and have come back to find a whole new set of "codex's" and rules.
While I understand the fundamentals of the new play style, I'm a little boggled when creating myAstra Militarium army list.

My confusion comes in the all of the sub codecs included in this index, for example, I want to have a tech priest in my army, but it's in the Adeptus Mechanicus area now, can I still field him? If so what are the requirements?
Same deal with the Questor imperial knights, I'm not sure what lists they are limited too or if it's , pick whatever is in the book style.

Please, enlighten me!!

When you make a detachment, every unit must share at least 1 Faction Keyword; whether it is IMPERIUM, ASTRA MILITARUM or <REGIMENT> (or whatever Faction keywords are accessible).

This means as long as everything shares (for example) the IMPERIUM keyword, you are fine.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Ah okay, that seems to make sense and sounds pretty darn awesome.

Just to be sure I understand , I could have a commissar as a HQ, 2 squads of guardsmen and say, an Onager Dunecrawler for an army list, as they call have the "Imperium" Faction keyword?

If so that really simplifies it.

Commissar Lord (regular Commissars are Elites), but yes, because they all have the IMPERIUM faction keyword.. The Codexes will reward you for taking a "pure" detachment, but until then there is no downside to taking the good ol' Imperial Soup.

FYI?

There are *a lot* of units with the keyword 'IMPERIUM'. IG, Space Marines, Mechanicus, Assassins, Inquisition, Imperial Knights, Sororitas and Custodes. At least.

Go nuts.

That is definatly something for me to keep in Mind to red commander!!

I've actually just got another question to add on, because I'm currently a super noob, with regiments, I was initially set on taking pask and Harker however they are in two different regiments, is it possible to have the guardsmen under the same regiment as Harker and get the re-rolls of 1's and then have the leman russ under the regiment of pask? Or do I need to have all units with <Regiment> listed as the same regiment?
(I do not have my codex in hand at he moment so I've forgotten their regiments and what pask does for units in his regiment).

Sorry for making to lengthy

You can take Pask and Harker in a same list, even in the same detachment (because: Keyword: Imperium!) but Pask can only help Cadian tanks and Harker can only help Catachans units.

So, you can mix and match <REGIMENTS> as you please. However, Harker can't help Cadian units and Pask can't help Catachan tanks with their special abilities.

Actually, Hark+Pask sounds pretty keen if you know what you are doing. Personally, I like Yarrick.
