I want to start by saying that this is one of those super lucky times when we can say without any sort of ambiguity that this is NOT the intent of the rule in question. "The Betrayer: You cannot re-roll or modify hit rolls of 1 made for Khârn the Betrayer in the Fight phase. Instead, those attacks automatically hit a friendly unit within 1". Randomly determine which unit is hit if there is more than one. If there are no friendly units within 1" of Khârn, the hits are discarded." Notice the problem? It hits a Friendly Unit within 1". Khârn himself is a friendly unit within 1" as per the rules for Auras in the Rulebook. Rules as Written, rolls of 1 can never be discarded and instead cause Khârn to punch himself. Not posted in YMDC because this isn't so much a rules question as a "look at GW being silly again" thread.

Because some people get their knickers in a twist, I'll list these in my sig. Be thankful GW has been very good recently and FAQing/Errataing things a lot faster and that this list gets shorter.
RaW you cannot advance and then fire assault weapons, you can't shoot pistols if within 1" of an enemy, "minimum" ranges don't work, Seraphim have to re-roll saves that "fail" pre-re-roll, the game simply breaks if you ever have more than one wounded model in a unit, Khârn punches himself in the face if he's not near some meatshields, Librarians on Bikes are locked to the Index power list, Howling Banshees can't declare a charge further than 12", Spore Mines have an infinite range, Shroudpsalm technically doesn't do anything, and the game also breaks if a single rule ever tries to do multiple things simultaneously.

Ah, so rather than posting it in the relevant forum to be clarified and discussed (as it's pretty obvious what they intended) you decided to post here as yet another part of your Anti-8th Edition Crusade where you gripe about everything and anything.

Soothe your mammeries. I didn't post it in YMDC because it wasn't a rules question. I freaking love 8th edition, warts and all. But since it's moved here, so be it.

This isn't an aura. And if they wanted it to effect himself they would not have said "if there are no friendly units within 1" ignore" they would have said "if there are no friendly units within 1 he hits himself".
This isn't an issue unless someone wants to try and make it one as far as I can see.

It must be an ability to be a Aura. This is an attack not an ability. So you simply follow the written rules for it, and not the Aura rules.
