I am trying to drain myself of some salt by discovering what could have been done to improve my predicament tonight. I was playing Tau and took counterfire defense on my stealth suits (yeah ATS is usually better and it proved to be the case and then some today) which lead me to feel like I wasn't playing the game at all when my opponent repeatedly charged me without LOS. So I'm asking, how does one deal with chargers without LOS? In this particular example the opponent was playing grey knights and had lots of ruins and crates absolutely everywhere which he used to teleport and psychically re-teleport behind in order to block LOS which he could psychically shoot through and then charge through with rerolls. And of course jet pack infantry could do much the same so it seems prudent that I learn to get through this.

Perhaps if my commander shadowsun didn't roll 80% 1s (not exaggerating, she seriously couldn't roll hits even with rerolls, and then lost wound rolls with 1s) and my suits didn't roll so many 2s things could have worked out ok in the long run but the charge still felt so wrong.

Bubble wrap. Better positioning. You need to keep an eye on the battlefield. Not just where you are and where you can shoot, but where your enemy is and could be and what that means for you.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

In the casting shack.

Big juicy units of Kroot hounds.

Psychically shoot thru?

Is that new to the GK Codex?

@Talamere; Yeah, there's a psychic power which lets them shoot without needing LOS.

Wait, are you saying your opponent moved through blocking terrain or just charged around it?

Moved through blocking terrain, big cargo creates or ruin walls (which is ok since they're infantry i guess). As for positioning, there was literally no place that didn't have a terrain feature of some kind about 9' away. I Didn't take kroot because it was so low pl. I'll try to bring them back into the fold although i don't like them much since its a stall tactic and stalling isn't fun for me.

Was he measuring the distance for going up and then down the terrain if he was charging through it?

No, he said incessors ignore terrain completely.

He also said that while I'm standing on a 3' crate he only had to charge the crate and i get no benefit. But when he stands on it and i shoot he gets cover save. Guess we should have discussed terrain beforehand. Just feels rough that it works so perfectly for him but i can't get any use of the stuff.

your mind

This edition it seems best to play ps4. At least in vr terrain makes physical sense.

Actually...

If you're standing on the 3" crate...

He needs to count the vertical distance to reach you...

Also, if your friend wants to be TFG and you want to be TFG right back...
Tau Tanks have a Hover Tank rule that makes them ALWAYS IMMUNE TO CHARGES! (if you place them on the Hover Base)

Don't bother anyone quoting me saying I'm wrong. I'm not. This is 100% RAW rules that has NOT BEEN FAQ'd

Pretty your friend is wrong about both his cover save unless you've house ruled it that a partially obscured model gets a cover save then if his models are standing out in the open no save bonus for him. They need to physically be standing in terrain to get any benefit.

And he still needs to make it 3" up the side of the crate as I read it. Their teleporters let them move across terrain as if it wasn't there, but they still need to move up it to engage you on a higher level.

That's how I read it anyway.
