Will Old One Eye still have a datasheet when the Tyranid codex drops? It seems GW dropped Librarians and Chaplains on bikes because they didn't have official kits. I didn't see anything on the GW site for OOE and I don't want to model my carnifex into him if his datasheet is going to be dropped. I know we can't predict what GW will do but I'm curious what people think will happen.

Fortunately, Jes Goodwyn futureproofed the carnifex kit and Old One Eye does have a model. The last codex showed that a fex with crushing claws, all those spikes, thresher scythe and the old "regeneration" head is in fact the "new" Old One Eye model.

Apparently that's what it's called. News to me too, and I owned the original metal Old One Eye lol. Apparently one is a scythe, the other one is a mace (you'll see what I mean when you look at the sprue).

I am going to say that No, they won't. GW do not have a box called Old One Eye, and due to the Chapter House Lawsuits any model with rules but no model is free for other companies to steal and make. We were lucky to get legacy rules in the form of indexes at all. Unless they release an OOE model with the codex release, the odds are stacked against it existing in the codex.

But its an alternative build in the Carnifex sprues just like the Swarmlord is in the Hive Tyrant boxes so a model exists.

Ignore him. He's just been on a crusade against GW and 8th edition as a whole for some reason. GW has released rules in codexes for models that don't have kits (specifically, the Dreadknight Grand Master) so it's a complete tossup as to what they will eliminate and what they will keep. I'm guessing when the codex drops, the Carnifex box will be "sold out" only to come back a week later as a "New" combination set that can also build Old One Eye and come with one of those newfangled small oval bases.

Jokes on you then, I actually like 8th. I don't like GW cutting their nose of to spite their face however.

I presume he did read the thread. He's just going with the very narrow definition that there isn't a separate entry on the website for "Old One Eye" specifically (even though the carnifex kit itself specifies that it can be made into Old One Eye), not that this reason is any better.

To me, Old One Eye will always be this model.

And that was a specific kit back in 3rd, before the change to the Tyranid line. I always expected Old One Eye to vanish Edition to Edition so I still expect him to be gotten rid of. But, on the other hand, he's the only Character that can have <Hive Fleet Behemoth>. Red Terror and Deathleaper are Kraken and Swarmlord is Leviathan if I remember right. If they make Hive Fleets Matter, I bet he'd still be an option but if there are no Fleet Tactics equivalent, I wouldn't be surprised if they retired the profile.

And the only time when he was indisputably a must take for anyone that could take him.

Right now, they're all listed as <HIVE FLEET>. Even if they do make the Red Terror and Old One Eye specific to a certain Hive Fleet, I don't see the same happening to the Swarmlord as his background supports him appearing in any <HIVE FLEET>.

Yeah there is no such thing as a nid unique to a hive fleet. Hive fleets are an illusion. A way for the iom to try to track and understand nid movements. There is only one hive mind.

Old One Eye and Red Terror are only really unique to them because no one has seen them outside of any other hive fleet.

For Old One Eye, it's implied that he was part of a bunch of genetic experiments in regeneration and several other instances of him were other "Failed" experiments that were just left wandering around and thus, apart from other nids getting the regeneration upgrade, no more "Old One Eye" strains were made by other hive fleets.

For Red Terror, the fluff repeatedly hints that it's entirely possible that all other sightings simply had no survivors, meaning the Kraken one is the only documented case.
