Hey all, just a quick question I had from the new Chaos Space Marines codex. I think this is ok but I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something.

Can you use the Chaos Familiar Stratagem to replace an Aspiring Sorcerer's Smite with a spell from the Dark Hereticus Discipline?

I believe it is ok as the Chaos Familiar strat requires you use it on a Hereticus Astartes Psyker, the Rubric Marine unit has both those tags.
The wording says you can replace any power with a power from the Dark Hereticus discipline, and the Aspiring Sorcerer knows Smite.

The only reason I ask is that while it's somewhat costly, costing 1 CP, it does seem like the intent may have been to limit these units (arguably this could apply to the Scarab Occult units from the Index too) and I'm unsure if there is something which stops you from essentially unlearning Smite.

It's a heretic astartes model, with psyker keyword and has a psychic power it can exchange.

So yes.

If it has the keywords, it can use the stratagem.

Thanks guys. I wanted to sanity check this before I pull this out in a game. Might still run it by my opponents ahead of a game, I'm not sure why but it doesn't seem right, though I can't find any reason why it wouldn't work.

I think this is an auto-take stratagem for Thousand Sons armies. Aspiring Sorcerers can actually be useful!

Wouldn't be possible for scarab occult.
P156, "note that death guard and Thousand Sons... Cannot make use of any of the rules or abilities in this section ".
This includes all the strategems, which are special to chaos space Marine codex entries.

I assumed based off the Warhammer Community post that came with the Index Chaos FAQ that Magnus, Scarab Occult and the Exalted Sorcerers could use the expanded Dark Hereticus Psychic Powers:

Don’t worry – the discipline isn’t being replaced and you won’t need to get Codex: Chaos Space Marines to keep using it. Though there is no mention of the same in the FAQ (I guess they want you to buy the codex to get the powers) so I guess RAW that passage you mentioned would trump this.
Still though I thought Scarab Occult Terminators with the ability to self cast Weaver of Fates for a possible 3++ against 1 Damage attacks would be nice.
