I've been collecting Chaos Space Marin- I mean, Heretic Astartes for a couple of years now, but I never really got around to playing with them. Now that the new Chaos codex has arrived, I find myself drawn to the gaming side of the hobby once more... but I don't really know anything about list-building, so I could use some advice!

As you can probably guess from the title, I'm going for a Word Bearers army, mostly because I started a small army of them for 30k some time ago, and thus already have some models at my disposal

Said models are the following:

1x Chaos Lord

1x Dark Apostle

20x Cultists (with flamers)

5x Possessed

5x Chaos Terminators (Combi-bolters & Heavy Flamer and 2 CF, 1 LC, 1 PF and a Power sword on the Sergeant)

5x Chosen (I still have to build these guys; was thinking of equipping them with combi-plasma's)

1x Hellbrute

1x Maulerfiend

1x Forgefiend

1x Rhino/Predator

I've also got 10 Daemonettes for summoning purposes.

I'm aiming for a small (read: 500 to 1000 points), casual and somewhat fluffy list, that incorporates at least a couple of the models listed above. I'll update this post once I've taken a jab at building a list myself, but in the meantime, I'm open to any and all suggestions

Hello, I too just started my Word Bearers army here are some ideas so far:

-need to capitalize on Word Bearer army-wide morale rerolls and strong demon summoning, plus high leadership aura from Apostle

-Full squads of cultists are nice because with the strategem that brings them back they come back at full strength

Word bearers are going to have less morale issues than other armies so full squads of troops (20-man squads of Chaos Marines or 10-Man squads of Terminators etc) are actually viable since they will lose less troops to morale

Because Word Bearer summoning is so good (practically removes all the drawbacks) having a good choice of units to summon will be key.

The whole point of summoning is that you don't have to choose what units the points are for and you can choose to spend them on the fly to counter what your opponent brings to the table.

Your opponent brings lots of anti-troop weapons? Summon large demons.

Lots of lascannons or other large monster killers? Summon loads of smaller demons

Its like rock paper scissors where you literally get to pick your choice after your opponent shows you their pick -- so take advantage of it with Word Bearers.
