Interesting thought: The new Marneus Calgar rules have the terminator keyword, and his rules reflect him being in termie armor.

If you wanted to use the older Calgar model (he's in power armor, but all weapon options are the same), would that be legal? And if so, what size base would he need to be on; 32mm or 40mm?

I know some older models are banned form events (Gorkamorka trucks being a prime example), but thats usually due to size differences. As far as I can tell, MC's stature hasn't changed that much.

There are a few options that are missing in the codex that appear in the index: why is that? Does that mean I can’t use these models in my army anymore?

While the indexes are designed to cover a long history of miniatures, the codexes are designed to give you rules for the current Warhammer 40,000 range. There are a few options in the indexes for some Characters and vehicles that are no longer represented in the Citadel range – certain Dreadnought weapons that don’t come in the box, or some characters on bikes, for example.

Don’t worry though, you can still use all of these in your games if you have these older models. In these instances, use the datasheet from the index, and the most recent points published for that model and its weapons (currently, also in the index).

They still gain all the army wide-bonuses for things like Chapter Tactics and can use Space Marines Stratagems and the like, so such venerable heroes still fit right in with the rest of your army.

If I remember old Calgar has his own separate rules in the index. Not sure if it's in the codex.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

You don't like your question being quickly, correctly and succinctly answered?

The old model has rules in the Index. The old model does not have rules in the Codex. The rules in the codex are not for the old model. The rules in the codex are for the new model.

We had this discussion at ATT, and I did drag up Calgar and his 2 models available for sale on GW

If he has 2 datasheets use the one thats most appropriate, obviously.

For models that came supplied with smaller bases which later received larger bases (Marines, Stealth Suits, Crisis Suits, etc) there's been no direction from GW Im aware of that stipulates those models must be ripped off their old bases and put on newly-purchased ones.

the ATT discussion was about the Tau Commander, for which there are 2 datasheets: Tau Commander and Tau Commander in XV86 Coldstar Battlesuit. Nothing in the indices stipulated what model the commander uses, but codices and literature in the past have made it clear that Commanders use different models of crisis suit interchangeably (Enforcer Suit, which you make with the Tau Commander kit or the previous Finecast kit; Or the newer XV8 Suit; Or even the older XV8 suit). Before 2013, your only option for modeling a Commander was the standard XV8 model. The Coldstar wasn't available until 2015.

Thing is, Calgar's datasheet specifically states he's a TERMINATOR in Terminator Armor. So it would not make any sense for the Calgar in Power Armor model (on a 25mm base) to be used as the 40mm Termie model.

Between friends proxy however you like. For other occasions use the Index entry for OldCalgar.

Old Calgar is a Legacy unit, and as such you can use them with opponent and TO approval using the datasheet and points from the Index.

I guess I like the idea of playing games much more than playing them...
