A fellow Dakka-ite is formating his own paint line and I was lucky enough to get to try out one of the test batches. Not only was he nice enough to let me play around with some prototypes, he also included a letter. In the letter he explicitly stated how it hasn't been tested in an airbrush. I read that line as a challenge and figured I'd give it a whirl.
Pulled out some Empire guys that were sitting in the bottom of the bitz box for an easy decade, threw down a quickie Zenithal black-to-white prime from rattlecan and started experimenting.
Primed, before pic.
Next step was to spray a single coat of the yellow, red, green and blue testers I received. Thinned with Wicked Colors airbrush thinner, shot from my no-name airbrush. Only did one coat each, if I were following my standard procedure they'd get two coats.
Lil' boy blue
I'mma race car and ya got me in the red
Mean green
Who you callin yellow?
Really liked how the new paint sprayed. They WILL need thinned, just like all paints do in my opinion. (I even thin "airbrush ready" paints a bit). Good, even coverage. Dried like silk and have a great finish.
Overall opinions so far.
Really solid paint set. The paint is good, the bottle is fantastic. Not sure if the final product will come in a similar bottle but if they are, I'm all in. The pigment content could be a bit higher in my opinion. 10% more 'oomph' per color would be about perfect. Dropper bottles with a brilliant cap, and great nozzle. The cap seals secure to prevent paint drying and the nozzle gives a consistently sized drop each time. This is really nice if you're a compulsive paint mixer like I am. Two drops red and one drop blue gives you the same purple each and every time. Excited to see more from Instar.
