I'm taking a break from building my nids army. Need something new

Which armies does alpha strikes the best at the moment, or durable enough to have plenty of models to beta strike turn two, or if i loose initiative.

Big points for not being to horde-like. Being able to transport them easier than my nids and also not painting that many models

Greyknights seem like your best bet. 90% of their units deepstrike - and they have good shooting an assault.

Tyranids are also a good choice. You can play them as an elite alpha strike army and ignore the hordes.

harlequins also have great alpha strike - because they have incredible movement and can advance and charge.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

To go in to more detail on Grey Knights, even though you are limited to a maximum of 50% of models being placed in Deep-strike, you can make use of the Gate of Infinity psyker power to essentially deep-strike in another of your units.

Alpha strike depends on a couple factors. Speed or other forms of mobility for your army. Typically fast things or deep striking. And, keeping a low model count in your army so you can *almost* ensure that you get first turn.

Having First turn is the best Alpha strike for any army.

Gunline alpha striking is fairly safe and still very effective. Melee alpha strike or teleporting deep strike is riskier because you put your models clsoe to the enemy.

Grey Knights, nids, Quins, as said above are all good at it.
Eldar can Alpha strike, but you should position safer with them off the start as they're rather squishy. Getting seized on and not being in cover or behind LOS blocking would be unpleasant.

A Tempestus Scion-focused Guard army could be effective at Alpha strike as well, but again, they're quite squishy, and compared to other "elite" armies, Scions have a higher model count.

Sororitas can do both the alpha and beta strikes very well, utilizing their Repressors with Dominions + Vanguard to boop up the board with a whole load of special weapons.

You can have a Repressor with 10 meltaguns in it, if you really wanted (though only 6 can fire out).

What about Night Lords?
Night Lords, on paper, has a strong ability with their leadership modifier. So killing a few models per unit could be devastating ?

World Eaters. 2 squads of Berzerkers in a Kharbdis Assault Claw, with a pair of terminator sorcerers nearby to hit them with warptime for the first turn charge. Bring extra terminators with combi-plasma to soften up your opponent before the charge.

It's devastating against elite armies and also a great way to kill vehicles. Opponents who know it's coming will do all sorts of things to mitigate the impact, which usually puts them at a severe disadvantage.

I would almost call this a beta strike tactic as well. The Berzerkers are usually still around at the start of your second turn, at which point the KAC can charge one of your opponent's vehicles.

Most people don't recognize the KAC is the bigger threat to their precious Land Raiders and Wraithknights. They learn.
