Subject: Imperial technical paint?

I recently purchased a pot of imperial technical primer. I spray prime my figures, but i've been finding a use for it in using it as a wash over my painted figures. Is this a correct use? Am I dun goofing? It adds a darker tone, and a shadowed/worn look.

This also happened to me when a shop gave me these in stead of abadon black.
This is a shading paint, it is not a primer. It is a Technical paint!! hope this helps.

Uhh... according to the GW site, it's a primer. Definitely a very thin primer (and kind of gritty), but a primer nonetheless. But if you're finding new ways to use it to give texture / shade, kudos to you.

Imperial Primer is an undercoat paint which is perfect for when a spray undercoat might not be convenient.
Has worked pretty well to coat extra green stuff and plastic / metal bitz added on after some of my models were already started.

Ah, so it's good for something then. I've only ever seen it's performance as a primer ruthlessly disparaged.
I dare say there are probably better things you could use as a black wash for your models, but if it works for you keep on keepin' on.

Yeah, undercoat =\= primer.
None of their sprays are primers, so if they're recommending Imperial Primer for use when you can't use their sprays, it doesn't follow that it should be considered a primer either.
Ultimately I see a lot of painters hung up in what they're "allowed" or "supposed" to do. The only really correct answer is "whatever you like."

Huh. I was never really impressed with any of the dry/technical paints, and the few that I've tried were the first ones to go dry, even before the old hexagon pots. Hell, my original Enchanted Blue is still going strong, and I bought that years before some of the dry ones I have that have just turned into what I can only describe as a milliput consistency. I've had better luck with the technical paints using them for tasks they weren't made for more often than their original purpose. Nihilakh oxide is great for quick plasma coils, Martian crust makes nice burnt monster skin with raw flesh in the cracks, and spirit stone red is a better airbrushed tint than anything else.
