Is it just my experiences or do 1000 point games feel more skin of the teeth than 2000 pt games.

For me if i play a 1000 pts the game cant be called till the last turn is done, stategy is more important and my game is fun from start to end.

2000pt games for me though can be called at the start of turn 3 and ive already lost 90% of the time

Does anyone else have a prefence on game size and whats your experience with different point levels.

through power, I gain VICTORY through. victory, MY CHAINS are BROKEN.

2000 is the de facto default right now. IMHO 1000 is just too small.

As the game size gets smaller, you take more time to make decisions for your remaining forces. You zoom in on the action more. Casualties becomes more important, and the ability to inflict casualties becomes more difficult, meaning those fewer forces have more room to move. In a sense, you've artificially progressed the game to a point where roughly half of each side's remaining force remain. This is why it can feel more cut-throat. I love small games because of this feeling. Only downside is that smaller games are more subject to skewed lists. A 200 point unit in a 2000 point game is 10% of your force. A 200 point unit in a 1000 point game is 20% of your force. If that 200 point unit is particularly well-matched against your opponent such that it makes back twice its investment, in the 2000 point game it'll take out 20% of your opponent's force, while in a 1000 point game it'll take out 40% - nearly half!

Smaller games work better when the chance for skew is lessened. This is why the old Combat Patrol games (500 point games in 7th ed) were a lot of fun for me, as the toughest stuff either wasn't allowed or was neutered. 8th hasn't progressed far enough to really know how to do that same thing effectively, so for now the smallest games I'm playing are 1500 point.

2k is the start point you really can't get much into 1k the units needed for a synergistic list don't all fit.

Our gaming group usually plays 1k lists. Quicker game and easier for the guys who don't own everything to field different lists.

1,000 doesn't really work. Some armies just scale so much better than others do at that level.

It seems like the game is being balanced around 2000 point games.

Armies like SW or harlequins can't really play at 1000 points.
