Are there any examples of converting the cheap 5-pack of Cadian Guardsmen (https://www.games-workshop.com/en-CA/Imperial-Guard-Cadians-5-models) that GW sells to Chaos Cultist models? The Alpha Legion player in me says that I need more of these guys, but the Chaos Cultist pack that GW currently sells mixes up both autoguns and pistols/ccw's, which isn't the mix I need.
They don't need much converting and come with the right weapons. Have seen them on the tabletop mixed in with GW cultists and they look the part. The only thing that stands out is these ones are metal.
I just scored the Aquillas on their armour and guns and painted them in the colours of the Night Lords. You could go further and swap some of the Guard parts for cultist, add spikes, etc. Though I didn't do anything extra because you need a lot of cultists.

I did a few for my friend and what I did was just remove the eagles, made his fatigues torn at few places, made few scatches on the flak armour, painted it in colours of his army, painted a chaos star on the lasgun and the helmet, then some proper weathering to make him look properly ragged and the equipment used for long periods of time without proper (or no at all) maintenance.
You can add some random chaos bits, make the guardsmen bloody or mutilated in any way, do head swaps...
