A sisters player I've been playing with has been using acts of faith on sisters while inside of repressors to make them shoot through the ports. Was wondering if it's actually possible to use acts on embarked models.

Sadly, no. They count as basically not existing when in vehicles, so they can't use Acts of Faith.

This. Fifth paragraph under 'Transports', page 183 of the main rulebook.

'It is a source of constant consternation that my opponents
cannot correlate their innate inferiority with their inevitable
defeat. It would seem that stupidity is as eternal as war.'

What's a repressor? I don't see it in the index. Does it have open top rule? There are no longer firing ports.

It's a Sororitas transport that Forge World used to sell. It doesn't have Open-topped. It has a different special rule that allows the embarked units to fire.

It has a very specific rule.

It says something like: "Firing Ports: Up to six models being transported by the Sororitas Repressor can shoot in their Shooting phase, measuring and drawing line of sight from any point on the vehicle. Units that shoot in this manner count as having moved if they or the Sororitas Repressor moved in the preceding Movement phase."

However, this still means they count as not existing on the table in any other context. Amusingly, they can shoot while the repressor is locked in assault, they just can't shoot the unit that is assaulting the repressor as they still can't target a unit locked in assault. They also don't get overwatch if the repressor is charged. It's one of the weird quirky FW rules of 8th edition that makes me wonder what is going on over there.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

That's a weird implementation. Why not just copy he rule for open top with a new name and call it a day?

Because... Game Workshop?
I would have done the same thing... simply copied the Open-Top Rule and modified it to limit 'All' to the number of Models we wish to fire.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.
