As the book states that measurements are done in three dimensions, I'm trying to find out what people typically have as a max playable height. I have one item on the board with a roof that accommodates smaller squads at a 9" inch advantage. And it seems the higher it gets the more it hurts the distance you can shoot. As well as the base portion that becomes obscured from the line of sight the higher the perch goes.

Do you count the roof here, if there is one?

My highest perch is a 4-story hab building. So, yeah, 9 inches. However, we rarely play with it. Usually we play with most buildings having just 2 floors, but there's some high points on those models that block sight as if it were 3 floors. Even when we have that really high perch, it doesn't usually come to affect the game.

In our case, 3rd floor is the most common. 4th floor is possible but rare.
Often the "floor" is a natural structure.

Since he states highest perch, yes the roof counts if you can get on it.

I don't play in my home so the only scenery I have is a bastion I got years ago.

My current 40K table? Nearly non-existent...I do have a bad-ass Mordheim table, where the buildings are frequently 8-12" tall.

This. the Fortress is a great piece for LOS-blocking (I usually run it, or two bastions glued together, as the central LOS-blocking piece).

Unfortunately, with the exception of bunkers, the fortifications seem pretty unplayable. Nice job, geederps... :(
