I am about to put together my first Space Wolves from the starter kit, I have 1x Wolf Lord, 10x Grey Hunters and the Cavalry.

My question is, what weapons can I equip them with and how do I distinguish which member is the pack leader and who isn't?

Sergeants always get the coolest looking bitz, that's my rule. Lots of fancy helmets and equipment.

If you have the rules or use Battlescribe, check out what sounds coolest and would be effective for your units. Plasma guns are pretty cool.

I build what looks cool and worry about what weapons they are later. It's not hard to remember what you equipped a unit with in a game. I've never had anybody say to me, "that's not a big shoota on that boy" (and I don't want to play with somebody who would).

Some maniacs model "what you see is what you get" and magnetize everything so that they can be totally accurate.

Magnets aren't that hard to work with, really. One in the gun arm wrist and another in any guns. But always remember The Rule Of Cool.

Liking what you've made is as important as knowing they'll be effective.
