I think I've mis read the psykers rule, my understanding was psykers cannot cast the same power a turn i.e unit 1 casts hammerhand so unit 2 must cast another power.

I've re read the rules and it says a psyker cannot cast the same power more than twice i.e psyker cannot cast sanctuary twice.

Which one am I right on? Basically I want to use gate of infinity on several units casting it on themselves i.e termie unit 1 casts gate then termie unit 2 casts gate.

Both, sort of - in Open or Narrative play, Psykers are limited to only casting each power they know once.

In Matched Play, Psykers are also limited by Psychic Focus (page 215, bottom left) which means different psykers cannot cast the same power (except Smite).

Last sentence of 'Make Psychic Test', page 178 of the main rulebook and 'Psychic Focus', page 215 of the main rulebook.

So can Smite only be cast once per Psyker? The way I have heard Psychic Focus interpreted, Smite can be cast multiple times, but each Psyker can only cast it once per psychic phase.

When people say "once" they mean "once per battle round/player turn."
If they meant once per game they'd say that specifically, or say "one-use-only."

Ah, I think you're thinking Psychic Focus replaces the other restriction (thanks for the page reference Ghaz)? No, it is addition to it.
