With the painting my Deathwatch nearing completion I began thinking about how to display them, with space in my display cases now at a premium. I thought of building some form of display board to sit on top of my cabinets and soon realised the what I was thinking of was very close what is required for an Armies on Parade entry, and so began plans for my first AOP display board.

This is the initial concept I came up with playing about in CAD software at work:

For the base entrance in the rock face I proposed I took the part i had modelled in CAD an printed as we happened to have a borrowed 3d printer in the office at the moment and pass it off as a "Test print". This is the printed doors, which had lost a little detail, but were still usable.

The next step was getting supplies and cutting to size the MDF base and 25mm styrofoam boards for the contours, this is the current shape of the base, which has varied a bit from the initial concept, but the overall concept is the same.

I've just purchased the imperial objectives, new skulls set and the citadel trees to add more detail to the base as I go.

Let me know your thoughts and constructive criticism.

Further progress:

Having finally gone to my local GW (Guildford) and put my name down enter, I've now cracked on and added more detail to the base with the new plastic skulls set and a tree from the citadel as well as a few other parts from my bits box. I've also primed and textured the base with sand gravel as well as 1 pot of astogranite and 2 pots of agrellan badlands. Just got to wait for it to dry so I can start painting.

Apologies for the image quality, these were taken on my phone in poor lighting.

After my first attempt at 3d printing came out ok for the doors i hit the cad software again to produce a nameplate, which i this time sent to shapeways so I could check out the quality of there prints and this just arrived a few minutes ago-

Anyway let me know your thoughts/criticisms/ suggestions. Thanks.
