So I've been struggling with necrons for a bit now, hopefully with the codex things will improve, but for now, they're OK, but the other armies seem to be pulling ahead. One of the problems I've come across is the heavy hitting, most armies have there lascannon/bright lance/dark lance equivalents, as well as there melta/fusion equivalents. The necrons lack easy access to cost efficient damage D6 weapons. This list hopes to address that by leaning on forge world a bit. It brings four sentry pylons with heat cannons, for those unfamiliar they're range 36" D6 shots, str 8, ap -4, damage D6. The rest of the army is made up of a few Doomsday arks to camp the backfield with some heavy hitting while also bringing flux arrays for any deep striking or infiltrating infantry; and just a whole mess of scarabs. The tactic is just to overwhelm the opponents targeting efficiency. Scarabs are a pain for most, on the one side they have a 6+ save and only wound on 5's, so the inclination is to try and not worry about them, however they are 4 wounds and 4 attacks each, so when it comes time to kill a lot of them, damage 1 weapons aren't really going to do the trick, and with that many attacks each, when large groups of them get to combat, the sheer weight of dice will start resulting in wounds getting through - not to mention they're just perfect screening units for my heavy hitting gunline. I know the list seems spammy and maybe took 2 seconds to put together, but I assure you some thought went into it. A lot of people will complain about the HQ's, but to be honest, Necron HQ's are in a horrible place right now unless you run steel wave with lots of warriors and immortals. The HQ's are not shooty, not particularly killy, and really only buff infantry or things with RP, as such, I just went with the minimum number required, and the cheapest ones we have access to. In total the list fields 62 models and 230 wounds, which is kind of absurd.

3 wounds each, and you have no midrange damage. You've gone too far the other way, and will get absolutely wrecked by lots of competitive armies. How do you deal with hordes with this list? How do you deal with flyers/good invuln monsters spam?

I would bring Tesseract arks over DDA and pylons, its only 40 odd more points than a DDA and is literally mathematically better in every situation. Bring a couple of them, flavour your infantry to suit, lots of scarabs are good but against GK.......

Automatically Appended Next Post:
maybe drop all the pylons and DDA for TA? Pylons don't have QS and will die pretty quickly. But the FW arks have a 5++, QS and T7, best of all worlds

Personally I would drop about 18-27 Scarabs, both DDA and all the Sentry Pylons.

I would say to try something like this?

You could drop the Gauss Pylon incase you wanted to field more Scarabs or TAs but I think this list will give you what your looking for.
