If I start the game with a squad on a building pillar top that is 10" tall and has no direct way down (10" vertical drop for the models) can I get off of it?

Interesting question, and I don't know that there is a simple answer to it. RaW, though, all that the core rules say about vertical movement is that models "can be moved vertically in order to climb or traverse scenery", and later under terrain it says that units are assumed to be able to climb walls, but nowhere does it state that models must end their move on solid footing. Per this, you could arguable move a unit, say, 7" down the wall, and basically leave them mid-climb hanging 3" up the wall (of course, fluff-wise, this feels like it should have some consequences, I just can't find anything to support them). Of, course per the rules for wobbly models, you would have to hold the models at their actual location any time someone needed to check LoS.

What AnFéasógMór said. But WMS requires the model to "delicately balance it in place". You cant do that on a vertical wall. However, using common sense, to get up there the models must have been able to climb up, so they should be able to climb down as well.

Discuss with your Opponent, for there are no Rules for 'Pillars' within this game.
'Buildings' as well for that matter, though in the 'make up the damned rules yourself' section of Terrain it recommends Buildings are Impassable Terrain. Note that they do not recommend an exception for models with Fly, as they have suggested for past pieces of Terrain within that same section. This is most likely because they are trying to turn Buildings into nothing more then another "Model you take for your Army," and when functioning as such it becomes difficult to treat it as a piece of Terrain that can be transverse over... basic or otherwise. Thus, describing it as a Building Pillar Top, will make me believe it is part of a Building and wonder how your setting up there in the first place. Most players tend to do what is recommended by the Authors... impassable Building is impassable.
However:
By basic Terrain Rules and Developer Commentary combined; you have use Wobbly Model Syndrome as the only solution, but I do not approve of that answer.
- For Wobbly Model Syndrome requires your Opponents agreement to the final placement, and any Opponent can say No... thus, the answer when it matters is No.
Personally:-
We have Rope, have at her.... and if you want to add a Rule to this Pillar's datasheet called 'A sudden stop' which generates a mortal wounds for each roll of 1 I will even let you move the full 10 inches to the ground!
That is the one blessing of being told to make up the Rules for Terrain ourselves, feel free to bring a Datasheet to the table that grants this piece of terrain something fun to mess around with.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

HIWPI: if units can't climb on the building during the game (because it's too high), then it's impassable, and you can't deploy on top of it.
Otherwise it gives unfair advantages to shooty units deployed there (as they can't be charged).

They "deep striked" on top of it.

Clear something like that before the match.
HIWPI a) Impassable terrain or b) You can set them up there but unless they have enough movement for the vertical distance they are stuck up there. (or a special rule allows them to ignore vertical distance of movement)

If Khorne needs blood, will drown him in his own blood!
If Slaanesh wants pleasure, then we´ll give him DEATH, the greatest pleasure known to man!
If Tzeentch asks for forbidden knowledge, then we will enlighten him with fear of The God Machine!
If Nurgle wants us to embrace rebirth, then to hell with that, the Guard embrace Death, we live to DIE! |

Yeh they were Scouts equipped with cloaks and sniper rifles so I literally didn't move them. They camped, but I was just curious what if I did decide to move them ya know.

Stepping into the new edition has a question about models not having enough move to make it from one level of ruins to the next. Answer was to use WMS.
It should appy here as well as it ends up with a base-line: model in mid-air using wms.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
