Since plague marines are so much bulkier looking than regular SMs, how could these smaller guys be implemented into a DG army?

There's not a ton you can do about scale creep.

You can fit after-market plague marine heads and backpacks to marines, but they won't be naturally as big as the new DG sculpts. My plague marines are just MkIIIs+third party resin.

Could little SMs be made to look very nurgly and be used as poxwalkers?

I was just using regular Mk3 dudes as Plague Marines because I could. Don't think anyone will stop you from doing that so long as wargear is properly represented.

Just make them heretics, new converts, less corrupted, ... No problem.

Mk3 armour looks really good on both Death Guard and Iron Warriors and kinda fits their fluff too. The Prospero set has made this a lot easier to achieve. Sometimes I think that less is more when it comes to chaotic mutation. Throw in a few horned helmets and 8-pointed stars and you are good to go. Sometimes if you add too many tentacles, you lose sight of the Marines underneath.

Save the real gribbliness for Possessed.

Use them as renegade mercenaries, or perhaps as marines who have more recently defected and are yet to be fully initiated into the ways of the DG.
