Hey guys, was just wondering on the number of overarching play-styles that armies employ.

For instance:

Vehicle/threat bumrush
Hordes
Gunline
DS

Etc etc

12,000

There can be different types of hordes. Most successful are killy mellee hordes (orks, nids) and extremely cheap tarpit hordes (ig).

There are a few other types of lists that shouldn't be forgotten that aren't in the OP

Board control.
Alpha strike.
Niche counter to meta-mancing cheese of the month
Mind bullet spam
Deathstar
Flying circus
Take all comers verity hour
Ninja objective grabbers
Unkillable threat projection (Celestine and 2+ Invuln grand master dread, plus whatever other annoyingly tough stuff you'd like)

And:

Super heavy and co.

Whatever your think about superheavies, including even one in your list affects your playstyle a lot.

I measure every Army based on two aspects. Is the army faction in question Close Combat, to Balanced, to Shooting. With the opposing axis being is it Horde, to Balanced, to Elite.
I feel any army could be out on a plot grid as follows:

Close Combat
/
Elite- Balanced- Horde
/
Shooting

Take that for what you will.

Cowards will be shot! Survivors will be shot again!

As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.
