My son enjoys his wooden Battlewagon, but I figured he needed some proper Imperial toys as well. So I made a wooden Leman Russ.
Yes, yes, drive me closer.
Now, as an ork player I don't actually have any Leman Russ models, although I'm sure they come with a lovely assortment of bits, so I had to do some research to get the size right. It seems a little small, compared to the Battlewagon, but it doesn't transport anyone and it's crewed by weedy little 'umies instead of proppa orks so I guess I got the size correct. If my math and research is correct it is largely to scale, although the tracks are a little thicker than the actual model as I had 3/4" wood instead of 1/2 inch and I didn't feel like ripping down 1x3.
It's made of wood - basically one scrap piece of 1x3 and one scrap bit of 2x4 and a lot of careful sanding and band sawing. The turret is held on by a carriage bolt that also forms the top hatch. The turret rotates, but the hull gun and sponsons do not. It's made of wood! WOOD. I did the best I could.
Anyway, the boy can now identify both a Battlewagon and a Leman Russ Tank, although since he only got it today he's still a little shaky on the Leman Russ. We'll work on it though.

This is really cool dude.
I can imagine an imperial child playing with this dreaming of the day when he grows up and marches off to war to be eaten by a tyranid.

Leman Russ in color!
It's a simple paint job as I am going to hand this over to a four year old as soon as it dries.

I second this! I'd totally buy a wooden Leman Russ. That looks fantastic and even better painted up. Great job!

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
