I've been using Vallejo Flow Improver to shoot any kind of acrylics tru my airbrush.
Problem is that I'm all out of Vallejo Improver and the only way to get it is via ebay and last time I used ebay the bottle was cracked and half the liquid was already gone. I can, however buy localy other stuff labeled as Improver, but I dont know it will work the same.
I can get:
- winsor and newton flow improver - can this work the same, can it help shoot acrylics smoothly?
- daler rowney acrlylic enchancer - it is meant to be used with brush, but I wonder if it can do the same job as vallejo in the airbrush?

Any ideas?

My suggestion is, if it's not too expensive, to get some and find out. They're both good brands so I doubt it's going to be a bad product.

Maybe in the end I will do that:

I have a 4oz bottle of liquitex flow aid that has lasted well over a year and probably will continue to last, and I paint constantly. I think they are like $8 on amazon.

Vallejo flow improver works better than dish soap (I say that as someone who used dish soap for years to break the surface tension of my concoctions).

Unfortunately I haven't tested other flow improvers to say if they work just as well. I imagine they would, but I can't say that from experience.

I bought Glycerin and Distilled Water from the local pharmacy. I will make the mix and see if it works as vallejo. It seems thicker so far and odorless what makes me think that there is something more in vallejo than just water and glycerin.

2.5<10% 2-butoxethanol according to the Material safety datasheet for Vallejo flow improver
Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alchol) has similar properties and is easier to get

I'd imagine it'd be a mix of surfactants, alcohols and maybe some oily type of compound. From memory it also has the smell of glycol-ether (the same as the thinner and cleaner does).

Well for stuff like airbrushing i remember people using a lot of windex

2-Butoxyethanol

Ethylene glycol hexyl ether

Isopropyl Alcohol

Water

well the MSDS seems to show it has basicly everything in the liquitex stuff

LOL

I've been using Liquitex flow-aid for over a year and I gotta say it works pretty good. I make my own thinner.
Here's the recipe:
30ml isopropyl + 70ml distilled water > 10ml flow-aid > 20ml Liquitex slow dri fluid retarder.
